Thread: A challenge to the DEV Team and to DE's as a whole
I am one tired Master Droid Engineer!
It seems to me that the DEV team has completely forgotten us DE's. I spent a very long time grinding away to achieve the title of Master DE, and I would like to receive some reward for my hard work. However, it seems the powers that be disagree and in fact have gone out of their way to punish me for my hard work.
I would not say I am a Star Wars fanatic, I would say that in all the Star Wars movies that I have seen, droids were an intricatepart of the reality and in fact held major roles in the story line. I was under the impression that the DEV team at SOE wanted to create SWG to closely resemble the universe that was protrayed in the books and movies. By ignoring droids and their creators you are significantly reducing the reality of the universe and the playability of the game, not to mention grossly misrepresenting Star Wars as a whole.
I challenge the DEV team to take a good hard look at the amount of DE's in the game. Then i further challenge you to speak with random DE's, DE's that selected this profession because they wantedto play a toon whom was proficient in the creating of droids. Ask them how they feel about their selected profession.
*NOTE: I do not feel a Holo DE is an exceptable representative for sampling.
Further I challenge any and all DE's to post on the string whether you agree or disagree i care not. Please title your post with "Agree" or "Disagree" as you see fit and then in the body of your post explain your reasons. It is very important that we stand up for our choosen profession!
I had two very viable accounts on Dark Age of Camelot, a level 50 Ranger, and a level 47 Healer. I regretquitting DAoC and unless my concerns are addressed in some form,Iwill return to my previous game. Realizing thatone account is meaningless to SOE, I would encourage anyone who is in agreement with me to follow suit and state it as such.
Now,
What I would like and expect to see is:

Problem is...you're preaching to the choir on this one.
I'd say a good 90% of us DEs (Master and Novice alike) feel this same way. There really IS no big "payoff" for achieving Master Droid Engineer. The droids at the MDE level don't serve any purpose in SWG whatsoever. ADV Protocol Droids serve no innate purpose. Binary Load Lifters do...nothing.
The idea that we'll get our own "MDE-Only" Combat Droid seems to be a kind of player-started idea that reparations will be madefor being overlooked as a profession for so long. Now granted...no developer has ever come right out and said "Yes, we will be giving you your own combat droid that only Master DEs will be able to use." (At least to my knowledge, they haven't said this...)
Personally, I don't see DE being turned into a "Droid Handler" hybrid, like some are speculating it will in January. My reasoning behind this? A simple business formula:
* The vast majority of accounts belong to combat profession players (around 70%, last I checked), making them the most active player types and representing the bulk of SOE's revenue for Star Wars:Galaxies
* Because of this, combat professions have more "political clout" (for lack of a better term) than other professions, and by default, gaining them more of a "say-so" in the content implimented and direction the game takes
* If the "vast majority" has a problem with the heaviest combat droid being accessible by Master DEs only, then the developers will not go that direction because it would cause the possibility of losing even more accounts being cancelled because of "game imbalance" or "favoritism" toward DEs
* And finally, the DE community itself is split right down the middle about this whole DE-only combat droid issue
Just hold out until January/February. See what the deal is with combat droid in general. If combat droids turn out to be a complete and total joke in comparison to CH/Non-CH pets, then drop DE like a flaming sack of Bantha poodoo. In the past, I've given in to the Dark Side a few times in the past on these boards, ranting and complaining to vent my frustrations...only to have several other DEs tell me to shut up about it or to "not let the door hit me in the ass on the way out" if I was so disgusted about the state of our profession.
But in time, I've learned to adopt more of a "Wait-and-See" approach to our beloved droids and the profession overall. If you don't like the direction that Droid Engineer is headed, then do one of two things...
A) Drop DE in favor of a more fun (or at least less frustrating) profession
or...
B) Wait for the Expansion Pack is released and take up one of the brand new professions it will offer, like Starfighter Pilot, Freighter Captain or Starship Designer
So just kick back and wait to see what January brings before giving yourself an ulcer from the disappointment and frustration.![]()

I'm praying for Starship Designer. Would be a good thing to off set my Master Artisan/MDE.

This profession was OBVIOUSLY rushed and was behind shedule when they released the game. That is the sole reason that DE is fubar. Dont get me wrong, you can tell by some stuff that the devs were doing some inspired work, but the profession is INCOMPLETE. That is it!Examples include 50% of droids HAVE NO FUNCTION. All they need to do is finish it. Not a patchwork of fixes, but finish the logical thought process spawned by ideas that were initially intended for Droid Engineer.
if you read on this forum alot you will see the same static names all the time posting, why? cause there isnt a whole lot of us =). which should tell you something about this profession.
