Thread: Two very simple droid features I'd like to see

1) Allow the Converse droids to be named. Like the Protocol Droid and the Surgical Droid. I'm sure it was just an oversight that they can't be named now, but I'm afraid it'll never get fixed unless it's being pushed for. I want to have a cocky protocol droid at my side, and I want him to be named something other than "3PO protocol droid." Let's push for this fix -- it's really, really minor, but so minor it'll slip the devs' attention forever.

2) This might be questionable, but I'd like to see it. I'd like the ability to "talk" via my droids for RP purposes. For example, typing "/droidsay Wormgear I'm afraid I'm having difficulty navigating this hill" would make my droid Wormgear say that phrase. I think that would add a lot of fun roleplay value to droids, instead of buying personality packs and waiting for your droid to say some generic "Stay away from my friends!" message. The personality packs are cute, but stupid. I want my droids to TALK. And the only way to do that is to give that control to the owner. -- Note, I'm not saying I want a programmable, self-containedtalking droid. It's like an echo -- the message comes from it instead of me.

What do you think, sirs?

I like your talking idea, it would make the RP experience ever so much better. You can then finally make your droid say some very witty remarks

I would say being able to name your droid is a totally *major* issue! Thishas to be fixed...

...but preferably with a new droid naming system that allows the use of numbers. One would hope this is in development for all droids and that's why this particular glitch has not been fixed yet.

One would hope.

Imust be missing what your trying to say, because its common knowledge you can name droids.

You can't name the talking droids (NOT the R-series, the humanoid ones) due to an oversight. I'm telling you DEs, rise up about this or it'll never get fixed! The problem is, it's a small fix, easy to make, but the list of HUGE fixes is so long in SWG that this one is at the bottom.

just wanted to say that i love idea #2. i mean, i am honestly shocked that i haven't thought of that myself nor have i seen anyone else suggest it (i apologize if i overlooked it in any previous threads). i think it's one of those "so simple it's brilliant" ideas that, in the real world, can make you millions. nice proposal.

It's in my wishlist. If you like it, make it part of yours too. I'd like to see something like that in the game in... I don't know, six months' time? (If I'm still playing.) The only way to get anything done is to bring it up over and over.

Can't be too hard to fix really.

They just have to add a "rename" thing in the data-pad for droids. I mean, how hard can that be to fix when you already can rename waypoints as you please?

As for the conversation... I LOVE that idea.
And make us able to record messages so that the talking droid can say that on a given command.

The only problem with #2 is that people could command their droid to "stay" in a place, run away and grief players from afar.

The owner's name shows up in the Examine window. Then the complainant can /addignore him. The speech should still be a product of the player, not the droid (i.e., you can't ignore an NPC -- ignoring the player should shut up the player AND the droid). Also /droidsay shouldn't work beyond some range or time (example: the time it takes for your droid to have been "released" and start conning as an enemy).
