Will droids ever be able to take over work functions like upkeep of a Harvester? I have just started Droid Engineer last night. If all droids really do is follow behind you looking cool, then maybe I should look into another profession. I realize some can fight, sorta, and some can heal, but can they do anything else???

About the only half-useful talent of current droids is that of a portable crafting station. The are useless for combat. They can't recharge or service your harvesters and probably never will.

Well... some can fight... I mean... one model can fight, the probot. There's one more that has the attack command but it has a whopping 45 HAM so it gets killed by EVERYTHING in one hit.

And sorry, no droid can actually heal... they can just aid medics in their work, that's all.

When the devs (if the devs) get the corpse issue fixed, and insurence becomes a necessary thing again, then droids will also serve a major function that I'm sure everyone will want... secure storage.

Currently, item storage is more like an extention of the person's backpack, and allows them to carry more then they normally could. Once the corpse bug is fixed, and people have to start insuring their inventory again, the item storage modules will let them place inventory into the modules to prevent its loss upon death. This effectivly becomes a once time purchase of semi-accessable and protected items. (Semi-accessable because you can only access them while the droid is out.) Since the current max is only 10 items, it's not uber, but it ain't bad either.

It's not really semi-accessible. If you keep the storage compartment open, then store the droid, you can still access it.

Hmm... intgeresting... I would never have thought of that

I would think thats a little known bug, rather then an intended responce though.

Droids are intended to assist people doing things, it seems. They aren't intended to do things for them. Examples:

Medical:
Allow characters to use medical abilities outside of med centers. Give a bonus to medical abilities in the case of high end modules - Yes
Heal characters automatically at a rapid rate - No

Crafting:
Allow characters to craft complex items in the field and gain the benefits of experimentation skill - Yes
Create items for characters with no skill on demand - No

Combat:
Assist characters with some extra damage. Take damage for the group for a bit - Yes
Send out to kill a rancor for you so you can loot the corpse - No
