Thread: Bug? Exploit? Or as intended?

OK, so im making a few droids for orders last night, get an order for an R2 with a Data storage and Chem/food crafting station. No big deal. I made a Data Storage Module 3, at completion it said capacity 5.

But when customer used droid he was praising my skill as the droid had a data storage capacity of 75!! I told him the praise was undeserved as it had to be a bug, it was only supposed to hold 5.

Curious, I made a mouse droid for myself with a data module 3, sure enough capacity 75, and I put 20 schematics in it just to make sure it was correct. Sure enough they all stayed in droid, after I not only stored it, but logged off, then back on to check.

So, I decided to make an Adv mouse with 2 data 3 modules. At completion it had a storage capacity of 125. Now thats alot of data. Not only that, the Data Storage Droids allowed me to store other droids in it. Something that I have not previously been able to do. This also seems to negate the 5 droid max as stored droids dont seem to count against total number allowed.

Now if this is working as intended, then 1 droid could concievably hold 125 other droids, each with 2 data 3 modules for a total 15,625 new data storage for the player, Now to get real freaky, if each of these droids had just 1 droid as data, and that droid had 2 data storgage modules, you now have 1,950,000 or so data storage out of just 1 droid.

Needless to say I reported this as a bug. But I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this, or is it just on my server (Gorath), Also, needless to say, I have been besieged with droid orders for droids that have 75 or 125 data storage. So far I have just avoided this by playing an alt,but would like to play my droid engineer again, but not until I hear from SOE on this situation.

Thanks for doing the math on that, I got a good laugh out of it! I simply can not see this as being 'as designed' either.

the storage amount is not a bug, and is 'as intended'

storing pets, however, is an exploit, and has been fixed (in an upcoming patch) so no more nested droids or infinite pet storage.

Yes, I did the math when I found the exploit a while back, tested it, made sure pets grow, and all that, while inside the droid. it's a huge potential exploit, and has been fixed. I almost didn't want to report it, as it was almost asking for my own profession to be nerfed, but the exploit was FAR worse than any nerf could ever be.

"Not only that, the Data Storage Droids allowed me to store other droids in it. Something that I have not previously been able to do."

Sorry... but you have always been able to do this. And yes it is a bug (exploit?) and they are eliminating it.

The one question nobody's answering is what does this hurt, being able to store pets in droids...do you really think a CH is going to go tame 125 Rancors, put them in a droid, put that droid in another, then tame 124 Rancors? Please, we have enough troubles...this is killing your data droid sales...

It hurts the database. Pets take up far more data storage than schematics and waypoints.

Its also a design problem because characters are only suppose to have 5 droids at a time, I think 5 pets, and I don't know how many Faction pets. While this is a lot its a far cry from being able to store 500 different droids/pets (assuming 4 droids with 125 data storage a piece and one open slot to move your current droids in and out).

I had built a mouse droid last week with a droid socket cluster module, constructed of 2 lvl4 storage modules...

The owner tamed it, and put8 items onto it. He said it reported 7% used... He then said it reported 110 total capacity. I dunno - I actually haven't built anything yet to determine how many slots it actually has...

"The one question nobody's answering is what does this hurt, being able to store pets in droids..."

Well... how about 'Unlimited Item Storage' for one thing. Yup... as it is right now you can build a droid with an item storage module, store items in it then store it in another droid with a data storage module, which can also have an item storage module with items in it... store that into another droid and you can embed them indefinitely.

Oh yeah... and don't think for a sec that people aren't exploiting these to tame dozens of high level creatures so they can all grow all of them in their droid's data storage. How would you like to take 50 rancors and grow them all from babies (level 1) up to full grown in less than a week?

Your right Jabetha, If people do use it for that reason, then it is an exploit.

**edit**, there go my plans for my Droid of Holding line of droids down the tubes

An obvious problem that needs to be fixed. Although what does one store in data modules if not pets and other droids? Schematics? Those expire so fast with resource shifts I can't see them needing much room for storage at any time... just curious.

i'd LOVE to be able to store the Draft Schematics that I don't use in there, but don't see it happening. oh well.

as to what else, waypoints would be nice, but again, who has that many waypoints? I still think it should allow one or two missions per level of data module, but hey, that's just me. Would be INVALUABLE that way.
