Bugged it in game, but am pointing it out here for all to know.
When you either "travel" in a private starship, or launch into space, your droid will store. This is mostly an issue with Barker Droids and seriously degrades their usefullness.

I thought that was how they were supposed to work....
Pre-JTL you left the planet, your droid dissapeared...
Post-JTL you leave the planet, your droid dissapears..
no?
this has been my experience with droids in general. The odd time i'll lavea droid at a starport, come back in an hour and still see it, but more often than not, i'll come back, can't see my droid anywyere, yet the datapad say's store, not call.

Nope, before JTL, I would always leave my Barker on another planet whileI was crafting on another. I can still do it if I take a normal Ship, but as soon as I use a private one, it will store.

This was added towards the end of Beta or right after launch. I believe it was added in part to cut down on the pet/droid/perk mulitple instances issue that. If this wasn't in play, you could literally have the same droid at every starport, to bark your warez, which is an exploit.

Ok, so instead of them actually fixing the real problem, they used a band-aid to fix it. A Band-Aid that basically makes a Barker Droid, as well as Advertising 4 almost useless.
Drashk, I'm sure I don't need to say this...... can we get it fixed right please?

It was right near the end of Beta... like within a week of the end of it. I started a thread about it the instant I saw the patch note but the only responses I got were people complaining about "droid spam" (as if the droid's 120 character message were anywhere near as annoying as a character spam w/no limits at all).

It truly is such a waste of what could have been an excellent module. The more limitations they put upon it, the more useless it becomes.
Spam is a fact of life in SWG because we have no form of global advertising. It's the only choice you have to advertise in-game besides word-of-mouth. I've spammed myself before - and I had people THANKING me for it after/during the droid publishes. I had so many, "I didn't even know droids can do that," messages I lost count.
Although I do see a droid or two with a barker in a decent frequency in highly populated starports, It's just so silly that you have to practically sit there with it. The only benefit (next to a laundry list of sacrifices, including batteries and limited message size) is that it stores a waypoint for you - but telling people to "type /waypoint xxxx, xxxx" is just aseasy.
The true soloution is to address the underlying need that spamming fufills. We"live" in a technolgically advanced society, yet we use stone-age tools for the most part in commerce. We need some sort of galaxy-wide advertising that allows us to give some description of our current stock and otheressential information. Thefew words you get on a vendor label are inadequate and permanent (lest you destroy it and loose your spot in the planetary map ranking). The auction channel was a great start, but it quickly became a contest of a few advertisers who can color and make their statement as bold as possible and/or who can repeat the fastest without annoying everyone; there must be a more elegant, civilized way to do things.
The barker droid could have gone a long way to helpthis, but the more it gets nerfed the more useless it becomes. This is one idea I had in mind when suggesting profession-specific loot - a battery that lasts longer than an hour just for this purpose. While I don't think this was a direct nerf to us, I think it was more to counter lazy people who don't store their pets (of any type) before take-off, I think we need more consideration in this manner than we presently get. It's just time for droids to take back their creature-pet pedigree and return to the object-style storage it once had. Droids were buggy as hell in beta, but I prefered the system they "lived" in - they were inventory objects and not datapad objects. Sure, they disapeared constantly, but them beingseperate from the general pet code would be so beneficial now so droid specific issues like this didn't get dismissed into "oh, it's just a pet, all pets must follow the same rules" territory.

Well I thought it was a bug, must have missed that set of notes.
Really annoying that anybody can AFK spam in unlimted amounts, yet somebody with Advertising 4 can't even use their 120.
Well I guess I can lose Advert 4 and pick more vendors up again. Barking was the only reason i had it.
