Can anyone tell me why I am unable to create advanced motive systems as well as a few other things. I'm using the droid crafting tool on public crafting stations and I can't create them so therefore can't create advanced robots. Am I doing something stupid or is there a problem?

You are trying to craft an item that has a higher complexity than your current setup allows. Basically, the order goes like this:
Generic Crafting Kit
Weapon/Droid/General Crafting Kit
WDGCK + Public Crafting Station
WDCGK + Private Crafting Station

Pretty neat stuff in there. It's amazing how much information you can get from actually taking the time to read the stickied posts. They are at the top for a reason.
