Thread: Thinking of becoming a DE...

Hey all. I'm new to this board so I'm gonna ask some dumb questions.

First off, I originally started my character as an Artisan, but way back in the day Intrepid was young and I didn't have the patience, resources or money to grind any crafting profession. So I went Scout, Marksman, and eventually got my way to CH. I'm not too proud of that, but whatever.

As it stands now, I'm a Master Scout, have some Ranger skills, and have 4,4,3,3 in Artisan and will hit Master Artisan the next time I am in-game.

From there I wish to make vehicles, but would also like to get an elite crafting profession. DE always interested me, but so did Weaponsmith. So now I have a decision to make and would like some information.

Do you guys recommend this profession? How broke is it? Where do you see it going? Are there any big updates the Dev's have planned that I should know about??

Thanks in advance for your help!

My only recommendation to you is that you read the 'State of the Profession' post by Sintrosi. It should be stickied at the top of the board.

If you read that, and still have an interest in being a DE, then welcome to the masochist's club!

In all good conscience, my first response would be to say "Stay as far away from DE as you possibly can. Treat it like its the Ebola Virus!" Its kind of sad when a Master DE is telling you this. We love our droids...but beyond being mobile crafting stations with hoppers (Item Storage Modules) or stat boosters for Medics/Doctors, they are practically useless.

If the devs were to remove our profession from the game tomorrow, it'd take the rest of the SWG community 2 to 3 weeks before anyone noticed, I'm afraid.

But if you are indeed interested in droids, and not making gobs and gobs of instant cash, then welcome aboard. If your looking for a profession where you are constantly in demand by practically all professions, then go Weaponsmith. At least you have job security there.

if you're going to go DE, you should know that a majority of DE's are also master artisans. Our more advance droids take many master artisan parts, so if you dont have a MA friend with a factory who can pump out the parts for you, you're going to have to devote points to get MA too.

Thanks for the help guys!

The way weaponsmiths are on my server, there's a few who pretty much run the whole show. I'd like to be that for the DE on my server.

I might go DE.

WOoT! Intrepid!

If you are going DE my suggestion would be to get your harvesters up and pulling out steel and fiberplast while you are thinking about it. Otherwise you will be living in the Exchange on Naboo paying for the resources...

My quick calculations are:

400,010Steel
178,697Fiberplast

Good luck Irasha! If you need any help in-game, message me I'll have Master this weekend!

Rock on! \m/.

I am kinda torn though. Some people are making a good case for melee weaponsmith. I'll have to think about it on my vacation this weekend.

Put me on your friends list and hit me up when I get on Sunday. I guarantee I'll forget this even happened come Sunday.

I suggest going for DE. Right now, things are kinda weak, but there will be massive improvements very soon that will make DE an extremely cool profession.

Either way, it isn't a one-way street; if you go DE, then decide you hate it, you can always dump it in favor of Weaponsmith. All you'd have lost is time (and maybe credits).

Cool, I think that's what I'm gonna do.

Thanks for the help everyone!
