Thread: THUNDERHEART..A question to clarify combat droids
Everything I've read has indicated to me that we are essentially going to be crafting 3P0s and LE repair droid with guns. PLEASE clarify if this is the case, or are we going to be able to get a new kind of droid that can fight?
If theformer is indeed the case, I hope you realize what a HUGE mistake it is to take it in that direction. The only DEs that are still around are holocron chasers, and those who REALLY love the droids of Star Wars. And 3PO with lightning gun is NOT Star Wars. A few years ago Hasbro released an R5-D4 action figure with a missle launcher and they were absolutly CRUCIFIED by the fans for it..it just doesn't jive with Star Wars cannon. Right now the last thing we need is to be turned into a tongue-in-cheek joke, with protocol droids carrying Uzis and exploding mouse droid bombs. (Oh look R2 has a ROCKET LAUNCHER! Wah-WAAAAA!)
At this point I don't even care about Droidekas...I'd be happy with a battledroid.

lets wait and see what they mean exactly before the ranting starts. TH meant to be ambiguous, and we wont find out more until the time is closer. There was a protocol droid with weapons on it in one of the EU books, the darth maul: shadow hunter one i think.
Sorry didn't mean for it to turn into a rant, I just feel strongly about the direction. I was hoping just to get a little clarity for my own sanity.
Yes I know there was one proto in one of the books, but I cringe at the thought of dozens seeing power-gamers running around tatooine with a 3p0 blasting everything in sight.
Still at least we would see more droids standing idle in the cities...
How about protos having a combat-support role? Like trying to follow you administering stimpacks as you get wounded, or better yet running around paniced, arms flailing while the enemy chases him, leaving you alone..or anything similar...

well, they said combat modules making droids able to fight, i think thats pretty much clarification that they are going in the uzi-protocol droid
Plus his recent post said that they wanted to make humanoid droid able to do combat. I hate that idea, unless the module makes the protocol droid or LE look like a battledroid or superbattledroid.
