Another great episode.Great to hear both the DE and BE profession correspondents have some 'air' time.
It can't be denied its good that DE got some airtime....butI'm searching for the word to describe Jenden's attitude or tone on that interview.
Resigned? Nope..still full of the same old boyish optimism
Angry? Certainly not..one would think that apart from a few bugs all is well
Hurt/Upset by lack of Dev attention? Not a bit of it..onside with SOE all the way there - 'its just a backlog'
Apathetic? No..again the same old enthusiasm shines through
Hmmmmm ... so ...
Was he Content? Not really, but kinda like 'hey its no biggie..time will sort it all out'
Positive? Again not really...its the most complex profession..Hmm but its broken, complex and broken..Ya
Eager? No not really. Let me just keep buying resources and making ..ohh..BH droids and alls well
Happy? Well apart from the minor irritations..more or less happy..kinda..well..y'know
Jenden...you really had an opportunity there and all you did was toe the damned SOE line of 'dont make a ruckus'. I am honestly disgusted with you on this. If you had gone on interview as just a DE well and good, but you had your corresponent hat on and to listen to you, the DE profession only needs a 'brush of the lips' type loving, not the Hot,Hard and Heavy love it really needs.
Are you so laid back you really can't get emotional on this subject at all? Man, you really need to get off that Prozac and see DE life as it is.
The things that were missing were basic things I expect in a correspondent. Passion for the profession, Determination to get it fixed, Righteous indignation that it hasnt been fixed, a Plan to make friends and influence the Red people that matter. In short what was missing was any emotion at all.
Instead what do we get....wishy washy platitudes and understatement of our problems. Your opinion on what a BLL should be, our ultimate masterpiece, made me cringe.
Wishy Washy Jenden, and a jolly bad show. I am saddened and disappointed. I think I now know one of the major reasons why this profession does not improve, its because you are too laid back to Make A Difference.
Oh..and did you just forget Droid Armour? Or do SOE forbid you to discuss it?
I honestly dont mean it nastily..but that was truly a most pathetic effort. Nobody who wasn't already a DE would have learned anything from it..... and those of us who are DEs know how you grossly understated our problems.
Shame
Given the intended audience (just your random every day players) I didn't think a rant was the way to go. All people would have taken away from that is that DE's are bitter and grouchy. Yes, many of us are bitter and grouchy, yes, we have every right to be, but pushing that as our image doesn't help us any. If this had been aimed at the devs, I would have made sure to hit every issue and detail we have, twice. Instead, I went through a brief overview that soemone who knows nothing about droids could follow. I didn't sugar coat anything (at least, I didn't notice myself doing it when I listened to it), but I didn't dwell on issues either. I'm sorry if you weren't happy with it, but the last thing I wanted to do is make people think we're just as bad as some of the whining jedi.

I can appreciate your feelings, Shivan. And I will not bag on them. But something to keep in mind: You're judging Jenden as if he is skilled at public speaking. Maybe he's not. Some people think better on their feet...some don't. Perhaps if he had the questions ahead of time, he could have organized his thoughts better and presented them a bit better. I mean, let's face it: The correspondent position is not a job title. If that were Tiggs or some other rep from SOE, then you have every right to be disappointed. They don't pay Jenden to do public speaking. Heck, they don't pay him.
Yes, he represents the droid engineers in this forum, but outside, he's just a SWG gamer. Cut him some slack.

I won't try to hide behind it as an excuse, but I generally am bad with phone conversations. I can do public speaking and face to face stuff fine, and IM/forum/email stuff fine, but its that half and half that I have never really mastered.

Ditto, remember in forum no-one can see who you are , what you sound like etc. Once you hit on radio or tv people get to see what you actually look like and sound like. Not everyone is that confident.
Its one thing to type out comments and stuff where you have minutes, hours, days to gather your comments and of course the quick edit button if you quickly realise you need to alter something before someone sees it. But to talk on radio where who knows how many people could be listening to takes some guts in my eyes. I'd be too nervous to say more than yes and no let alone put forward how I felt about something or put forward what Ive seen as a forum based feeling on the profession as a whole.
Listening to him I could hear the nervousness underneath. All I can say is Jenden .....

Oh, and Shian, if you felt something more should have been said, maybe you could get some time on air to put your feelings on the profession on air.
I should let you listen to the uneditedfirst episode that myself and gihren did. It was a mess. We are just now getting to the point where we can put a sentence together. I was supprisedhow smoothly things went for a first interview.
I for one am glad he didn't come on and complain the entire time. I think it is just as important to get out the info on what is good about your profession as getting out all the info about the bugs.
Couldn't say that I disagree more with your assessment of the interview Shian. In my opinion, after listening to the whole of the interview,Jenden did a great job ofoutlining the problems with our profession in a measured and informative tone, without becoming foaming at the mouth mad. Again in my opinion, that would have done nothing for us or our profession, especially in the eyes (or ears) of those who know so little about our profession.
He outlined some of the most serious problems and laid out the facts as they are. There was no"sugar coating" or "poo-pooing" going on. It was an honest assessment of a profession that has troubles, but what crafting profession doesn't in these times?I think that his initial statements in the interview put our plight in perspective and he did a great job.
Good work Jenden and thanks!

Well I hear whats been said, especially by Jenden, and fair enough perhaps I was a little harsh..for which I publicly apologise....and the people who know me know how rare that is ![]()
Nonetheless, we are in a mess, and I really dont think that making it out to be less than a mess is overly helpful to new players. I just dont see the point in getting some new SWG player to grind it all up (yep I know the grind isnt what it used to be) just to be disappointed.
Anyway...I agree Kudos to Jenden to speak live at all. To whoever suggested I do the same I
cos Jenden himself wouldn't be behind that idea I think. No, that wouldn't help DE at all ![]()

On the contrary, all viewpoints should have a chance to be discussed. Nothing said on this recording is what 100% of the DE's feel, and I'm not sure its possible to share every viewpoint at once (though I do try).
Anyway, enough rambling for me for now.
