Thread: Statement of Purpose for Droid Engineering
The problem is that the game model used was not a sci-fi model, let alone a SW model... it was the standard sword and sorcery model. Now, there is nothing wrong with that - for an SandS world.
I'll stick around for now - but if space ships are EQ style boats, I am so gone....

hahaha
/ooc I fell off the transport can some one at least lev me?
I'm waiting for the ships to be flying around on 2D planes with no combat abilities. If an X-wing is as good as the R units that are supose to navigate them, then it will take 9,000 components to build, have things that look like lazers but don't actualy shoot, have heavy armor but only 5 HAM but none of that matters cause if you try to attack with it it just turns the other way and jumps to hyperspace. Of course it won't run far cause every 10 seconds of hyperspace it drops down to an idle and announces *low power*.
On a serious note I bet space ends up being 2D planes and ships can only be purchased with faction making the dream of being a independant "Han Solo" type impossible.
(Yes I know Han eventualy was basicly a Rebel but that wasn't his intentions.)
Besides Sketh, aren't the current shuttles EQ boats? Just without the long ride.
Well, one thing you can be sure of.
There will be a holo-checkers game that those neat looking, clear topped R2's can play - but only against wookies (this will be to ballance wookies not being able to wear armor).
Of course, if the wookie looses, he must have the Arms Handler class to pull the droids limbs off....
I am not so sure Droid Engineers actually have a purpose other than catering to the other crafting professions which is a pretty limited market. TH has already stated that utility droids can't and won't be allowed to boost skills or abilities. That right there puts a major crimper on our abilities for future enhancements.
We already know we aren't going to get any combat droid useable by the masses better than a lvl 10 probot, so what exactly are Droid Engineers for ?? The only road I see Droid Engineer going down is the DH profession because that is the only thing the Dev's are allowing us to have. They have closed thier minds to anything else, even though it is apparent that just about every other 'crafting' class enhances combat or skill abilities in some form or fashion.
I think I am about done. I can't log on anymore than 30 minutes at a time anymore and when I do, I usually alt-tab out to read the forums. Sad when you have to scan the forums for a bit of enticement to keep playing, when we should already have these things in game after 8 months.

We shouldn't have to suffer with poorly designed droids just because the Devs didn't think about our profession when balancing the products that all the crafters make.
