Sigh... I was really hoping that they wouldn't go the R2-D2 with guns route, but would add in the Roger Roger chaasis (those guys were individually pretty weak...)

Well, we will see what comes.

Hmm, so they are testing combat modules without saying a word... well I guess they have alot to do with the Droid changes and they can't take time to announce everything they do. So I'm excited to see what other changes that they come up with.

Hunh...

Well, it looks like 'R2D2 with a blaster' is becoming a reality.

Oh, dear.

Get ready for what? We've been expecting this for several months now and have known it was coming in the next patch. Don't you read the forums?

A lot of that stuff is stuff that is broke with the current publish. I'm thinking this is a "hotfix" or maybe fixes that will go in with the "mini-publish" to open the Geonosian Dungeon. I'm at a loss as to what the Astromech "firing" fix is, though.

That would be called Test Center not live. Come on people READ the forums, this stuff isn't even remotely new or hard to understand. Heck in the Star Wars Universe Utility Droids have been able to have combat capabilities for thousands and thousands of years, but you would have had to read Star Wars sites, or books, or even played some star wars games.

mmm, some Star Wars lore. If you look through all the various sources the way it works is any droid (with the exception of security and military droids) is equipped with SLPP (Sentient Life Preservation Programming) that is hardcoded into it. This prevents it from purposefully taking the life of any sentient being or failing to prevent the death of a sentient being. This can be overridden by someone the droid recognizes as a lawfully certified authority. But, continuity must take the back seat to game mechanics, you can't recreate the universe perfectly.

I realize it's test center, and this really has nothing to do with Star Wars continuity. I was just pointing out the fact that this fix is seemingly related to stuff that's currently broken in Live. Also, addressing the fact that I didn't know astromech "firing" was broken, and having no clue as to what that particular fix entails.

And R2 did have that little stun-gun thing, so an astromech with a weapon isn't unheard of.

That's actually a little arc-welder, used when making repairs.
