hi
i'm a master artisan and considering one of the elite crafting professions. i had a look at weaponsmith and decided the resources required seemed difficult to acquire, i'm currently working on architect but it does nothing for me and consumes a huge amount of resources, so i thought i'd take a look at de.
i've been mining forawhileand have about 100K of copper, 100K steel, 200K radioactive, 40K polymer so i think i'm fairly well setup for de.
but whats the profession like? i have a droid myself but is there really much of a demand for them? do you guys enjoy the de profession? whats good? what grates?
as a mon cal would i have any great advantage with the profession?
any comments would be much appreciated.
cheers

It is a fun profession in a couple ways. First, there's a lot more diversity than weaponsmith/armorsmith in that you can have a custom droid business where each droid you sell is different. Figuring out what a customer wants and how that best fits in to what they need is an entertaining challenge. Secondly, it is pretty common (for me at least) to have people send me an email or /tell or even stop me on the streets just to let me know they're enjoying the droid or its working out great for them. This makes things more fun (for me at least).
As for demand, its there, though not as high as most other crafting goods. It takes a bit effort to sell droids, but its definately something you can make a living at.
The one thing with DE that you have to watch out for though is you'll need factories, a couple of them. 3 or so weapon/droid factories seem to work best for me. There are just so man sub-parts that if you don't factory make them it'll take you about 20 minutes to make some of the more advanced droids.
Is it as profitable as weaponsmith/armorsmith? No. Probably get more profit per resource than architect, but since things don't require nearly as many resources it doesn't add up as quickly.
I can't think of any advantage you'd get being a mon-cal. I don't think any species gets an advantage for droids.

I think Mon Cals have a specie bonus to crafting but I'm unsure if it applies to droid crafting. If your going for DE you need to stop mining copper and radioactives though
and start pulling up steel and fiberplast in big quantities. I get by with just one factory but I don't build a lot of droids on the other hand.

One thing you'll need a lot of is patience. You'll find yourself explaining many times a day what droids can do, what their limitations are, how to program them, etc. You'll need to know your product very well in order to sell droids. So take a little time, at each box you're granted, and fiddle around with the new schematics, figure them out. This will help you greatly once you reach master. Oh, and make sure to read the sticky posts at the top of the forums...
