Thread: View of a non-DE on the Droid Invasion

First thing i wanted when i logged in on publish 7 patch day was a combat droid like the one in the wall paper, or a droideka, or something that reminded me why the game has Star Wars in its name to begin with. I hear people yelling, "Looking to buy combat droids." I'm excited. I want something that no one else has yet. I want a something new that all of the other publishes have given us. i want the equivilant of a mount, i want a speeder, i want a DRX-6, i want a scythe. I want something that can shoot stuff and actually make a difference in combat. I want something with more than 1k ham. I want something that looks cool. I WANT SOMETHING NEW. I look around. A probot with 1k ham, wow, never seen one of those. That must bea pretty good DE. Ikeep looking for my combat droid. Coronet, i find nothing but probots and r2's. Theed, same thing, bestine same. the Droid invasion impressed me about as much as the melon nerfdid. Why they released the wall papar with those sick *** droids on it, i dunno. The fact is, I thought they were going to make droids useful for combat, and i was sorely mistaken. Star Wars.

If George Lucas decides to make R2 shoot some dude in the face in episode 3, then i will congratulate the DEVs. But since that isn't going to happen, I will just lower my head in shame. This was a chance for the DE's of SWG to be in tell hell. A chance for them to have to drop their master droid engineer tag before walking into coronet. A chance you make them more important than the guy who makes the lil buffer dudes. A chance to make DE fun.

man no one likes it. especially us DEs as we are the ones bombarded with tells from people like you, the average player. SOE misrepresented the whole thing and that's that. the life of the DE has always been summarized in one word : crap

So honestly, what exactly has changed? I am a BH with the desire to use droids, just to be Star Warsy. However I am close to having the ability to have 2 pets in CH, which I cannot do with droids. To become a DE would cost too much in training pts.


What new droids are out there that I can use, or what currently exists that is better than my Probot with 824 HAM and hits for crap?



Just an aside for the devs, there should be an ability, trainable maybe yes, but an ability for non DE to open and use more than one droid at a time. Luke did it as a farmboy. An expert in a choosen profession should be able to use a high end tool for his job as well. A MBH should be able to use a high level droid, look how sophisticated the tools of the BH's in the books.


I do not like pets, just don't. The only thing close, in appearance only, in the movies was Chewbacca to Han Solo. Chewbacca was sentient, so he was not a pet. There was nothing else in the movies, nor have I read in the books. Tons of droids though. However it is more cost effective, in training pts (credits don't matter), for me to become a CH and have two mid level pets at my side, plus my Probot to be incapped first. It just doesn't feel Star Warsy to me.I am now just rambling, sorry. This just gets me so worked up that there are too many points to make to keep them straight.


My main suggestion then is to have the devs read the books and see the movies and then start programming. They claim they have, but what they are putting out does not reflect that. At best it appears they have seen the movie posters and book covers.

There are no new droids. The same droids exist that were there before, except that many of them can now accept combat modules.


Which one you'd want depends on what you're looking for:


Best Tank:
LE Repair Droid - It has the highest HAM I've seen so far but does less damage than the other droids.


Best Damage Output:
Probots and DZ70's - Lowest HAM of all the droids but the highest damage output (even though they can't take 6 modules- it's been proven). A probot with 5 100% modules would hit for 153-163 or so.


Middle-of-the-road:
Astromechs - Medium HAM and medium damage output (which can still get as high as 130-140 with an R3)


So there are your options. We can also make droid stims now, which would give you a little help in combat. However, the armor on ALL droids has been reduced to 20% resists and no armor, so none of them will tank as well as they used to.

Hehehehe! Right now I think the Droid Invasion blows... But these DE's are getting at their correspondents/devs trying to get the stuff that wasn't included into the next patch.


I think this'll be like the Imperial Crackdown. It didn't really happen until the next patch. (/moaning on... Stupid annoying stormtroopers, not giving me a nice manageable TEF, no! They've gotta make me overt.... little white armored jerks... /grumlbe... /moaning off)
