Thread: Does anyone else fear us becoming a Flavor-of0the-Week ?
"oodBnar - Well, we believe vehicles are going to help that a lot - and the fact that droid engineers will be much more powerful soon. "
I'm glad we're getting love....but also afraid ![]()
Yep, I posted the same thread about 3 weeks ago.
I hate when the d00ds flock to a class.
It's inevitable though.
I've already switched my character title to "Propogandist" to keep from getting 20 tells a minute in Theed. I may have to avoid the cities completely when this happens.
My vendors will be red-hot though! ![]()
Sure, we'll probably have a few that will come, but with this class needing over 500k of steel and 250k of fiberplast to master, I predict many will lose interest before they even hit their second skill box.
Just a prediction.
"With great power comes great nerf "
Yep mabey you guys can take the heat off the Creature Handlers... <evil grin>
ack , I just want to introduce myself , joined the novice DE ranks 3 days ago , so don't count me in as flavor of the week please! ;p
Just lucky enough to get the game , and decide on DE right before some major plans are going to be err....planned.
I was starting to kick myself for choosing this craft. I joined up , started reading this board and started to get depressed.
All better now ![]()
I seriously doubt we'll get the 1337-ub3r d00ds, even if they do make major positive changes. We are not a combat class, the d00ds tend to flock to combat more. We more than likely will not be made "powerful", in that a DE would be able to take a krayt solo. As crafters, we will be able to sell whatever new toys the devs decide to give us, so expect the d00ds to be first in line, begging you to take their money....![]()
Whatever they give to our profession will probably come at some price, such as difficulty to craft, specific resource requirements. And weaponsmiths and armorsmiths will allways be in much higher demand I'm sure. We'll gain some and lose some, but maybe more so we'll stop losing so many to our rank?

Remember though that they have been saying they are going to make some changes to DE's for a while. I'll be happy to see the design doc if Thunderheart posts it tomorrow like he said he would in the chat but I have yet to see the part II of his post regarding the nerfing of CH that was suppose to be posted today to the SWG Discussions forum. So if he posts it great but I honestly will not hold my breath or get my hopes up until I see it happen. THEN it will be a question of *when* the changes will be made. Is it going to be something that will now take another 2 months to actually implement or what not?
Still if they change us and give us some more unique combat droids, the first thing I see happening is with CH being nerfed again...DE's getting the call that now our droids are tougher than most of the creatures so therefore we need a nerf now too. Worst thing that could have happen is a staff member of SOE saying that DE's will become powerful LOL. It puts the target right on our droid-making foreheads =). It'll happen... There is always a group out there that feels another class can solo too easily. We'll be told our droids are now too powerful as is our class and that we need to be adjusted. *sigh* It's the way of the world in SOE. Why can't they leave "balancing" alone and just add better content to us DE's? hehe =)

I do *not* want the Devs to simply make us powerful. I want them to make us "useful." Beyond a doubt. Useful encompasses much more....sure, with the proper Cert system we should be able to make some pretty comparable Combat droids, but that shouldn't be the limit.
If the Devs are honest with us about what they plan and they heed our discussion, I think we can keep us from becoming a FotM. We need to be able to discern what is necessary to help us, and what is a bit more than we need (or want, in this case). We need to demand that we get what is necessary, and argue *against* us getting that which is more than we want, or would otherwise damage the profession as a whole.
Like, if they say, "We're gonna give you Droideka, and anyone can use them, but they're hard and expensive to make, yet they're as powerful as a Frenzied Grauler," I would say, "The bloody hell you are." We'd love it, sure, and it'd make us feel suddenly important. But we could see the nerf coming.
As long as we, as a community, work together to stay level-headed and work with the Devs to give us just what we need, but not more than we ought to have, we should be fine.
