Thread: Looting Downed Droids For Spare Parts

Hello Sintrosi (SOE),

First off as a disclaimer i'm not a "Droid Engineer", nor have i ever had the pleasure to be one.

With that said has it been discussed now that especially combat droids are on the horizon. That droids that are downed (killed off) in combat can be looted for spare parts. Much like a scout that has the ability to skin (harvest) resources off a creature. Since right now only the npc criminal mobs like meatlumps for example drop cheesy spare parts. This suggestion would have the loot drops happen where they are suppose to. This would apply to: npcs, missions, and possibly even Pvp encounters where one happens to take out an enemy droid.

How does this sound?

Thanks for your comments.

Good idea. I do it all the time in KotoR

true, but very low on the radar screen I think. I already automatically destroy any junk I get from NPC's. I'd surely just destroy everything I got from looting the droids too if it was just obsolete spare parts.

Hi Guys,

Well scouts get to loot three different types of resources from a creature. (meat, hide, bone) Following that pattern if droid engineers could harvest equipment from a downed droid. What parts would be valuable to your profession that can be recycled into one of your future crafted droids?

Also, the dev's could also allow such dropped npc's electronic items to be upgraded by players. Meaning like slicers (smugglers) can slice a locked container to gain skill. Those dropped electronic items could be upgraded according to your DE skill. Or the items can be further desembled for parts into another crafting item you create.

How does that sound?

Could have sworn I've seen this post before... huh.

But the time/cost is not really worthwhile, unless they're dropping crates of adv droid brains or the like. Also, I thought those pieces couldn't be used in droid crafting (The microsensor suite I got didn't work)

Looting batteries might be handy Lol well for me at least

batteries do make some sense, but that wouldn't help the DE's. It's help the non-DE's who have droids but can't make batteries.

As another said, the exprienced DE can manufacture all the parts he needs far more efficiently than looting droids that have died. The novice DE can't, but the novice DE can't make anything but mouse droids and doesn't need any parts unless he want to be a droid painter instead of a droid engineer (in which case he will need only control units).

That would never work. You'd kite the droid for about 100m, then it would say *low power*. Any batteries you'd find at that point would be used up.

I'm a Master DE, and I like the idea! However, I don't think crappy parts like Motive Systems and batteries should drop. We should have "powerups" or "enhancers" like weapons and armor have. NPC droids (like Nym's Droideka) could drop the equivalent of Krayt Scales or Nightsister Armor plates. We could use these to build better droids (boost HAM, Damage, Speed...).

It would be great if some quests had rewards for such parts too (like the Armorsmith RIS quests). A whole new market would open up. Non-DEs could sell parts to DEs, and we'd get clients asking us to build custome units with the enhancers they looted!

We can dream...
