Made by hand ? I don't know about everyone else, but I don't make anything by hand anymore except the occasional custom droid order.

Yeah, making droids by hand at this point is very tedious to me. I just don't enjoy it so I use factories almost exculsively these days.

I think the original poster just grinded up DE and didn't pay attention along the way and now doesn't know what to do with all the components at their disposal.

Sorry, you aren't likely to find a "complete list" here - you need to do some work on your own (like, look through the skill tree and schematics, fer cryin' out loud), but in the interest of happy-positivity, I'll offer these hints to get you in the right direction : \

  • Look at the list of droids you can make - which ones do you want to make? R-droids? Protocols and Surgicals? Probots?

  • If the answer is all, then get working - you will need most of the components listed.

  • What modules are you going to offer?

  • Make sure that if you aren't a Master Artisan, you know one - you simply cannot make most droids without at least a dozen MA parts per droid - EMM's, EGP's, control units, and micro sensor suites - with some droid/module combinations needing 30+ MA parts just to create one droid.

You are also going to need a lot of named resources - extrusive ore, duralloy steel, duralumin aluminum, neutronium steel, lidium extrusive ore - and that's just for basic droids with medical and item storage use. Some of these only show up every few months at best on some servers - so you may be stuck stacking lower-level modules for awhile (and with the socket bug fixed this is going to be much more difficult).

If you are looking for the easy way out, you won't find it here - you can grind up the tree with just advanced droid frames (steel and fiber) to get the title and schematics, but being a DE is a lot of work.

So figure out what droids you want to make, find the common parts, and factory run those- once you get cracking on the resource requirements.

I pretty much make everything but the final combine in a factory. Oh, and I generally make the xxx Advance Droid Chassis by hand, too. But even at my low(ish) volume, it's just far easier to make all the subcomponents in a factory and have them lying around the house.

I generally keep about 50 of each subcomponent on hand. That way if I get a large order I can crank it out fairly quickly. And like Audio said, if you're serious about being a Droid Engineer, you're going to need everything. There really aren't any parts in the DE tree that go completely unused, so plan on having everything handy.

Well, that's not completely true... if you're a Master there's very little point in making anything lower than a Level 6 module because, for the most part, all you'll ever use are the Level 6 versions of those modules.

I'd say that's largely true.

I mean, we have the basics - droid sensors, manipulator arms, manipulator arm package sets, advanced motive systems, advanced droid frames, droid brains, advanced droid brains - but whenever I'm not doing organized large factory runs and making anything by hand I always seem to have to back out of the crafting process to make one component I didn't have around.

Storage is a huge issue for me. I've been working on making most effective use of my lots lately - it's a shame but I'm wasting a beautiful medium Tattoine house to just hold a couple of backpacks of parts. I used to drop them on the floor and arrange them, but it's such a pain at this point I don't do that anymore. If I'm not using my factories for a period of time I occasionally use those as extra storage - or just leave the crates in the output hopper when I can. But when doing large runs of droids (more than 200-300) you really fill out all 100 output slots in sub-component crates.

Hey, it takes an enormous amount of effort to be a Droid Engineer. The list of resources we have to watch for is just huge! And it's a colossal PITA to keep enough EMM and EGPM in stock. Droid Engineers are truely giants among... um... aliens?

LOL very true.

The one thing we do have "going" for us is that our resources are named but the quality not much of a factor right now - when I find Lidium or Neutronium I know I don't have to bother to check the stats.

I'm glad that this is changing, but I don't want to be a slave to it like a WS - it's 4-5 months between shifts on some of these rarer resources on my server, and having to wait a year or more for good stuff to spawn isn't going to be fun, hehe.

I do all factory for my vendor sales but I also need to meet the demands of those who /tell orders. So I have one droid filled with the function module crates, one with the chassis crates and one with misc components. One crate I keep in my own inventory is a crate of droid brains as they are commonly needed for final assembly.

Here's a list I just happen to have in front of me.. It's not 100% complete as Im just getting started myself, but it will help.

Master Artisan Items:

1) GP Modules (used to make Mirco Sensor Suit) and for a TON of other things

2) Memory Modules

3) Control Units (used to make Mirco Sensor Suit) and make a few extra for individual use

4) Energy Distributor (also used to make Mirco Sensor Suit)

5) Mirco Sensor Suit

Master DE Items:

1) Droid Brain

2) Adv Droid Brain

3) Droid Motive System

4) Adv Droid Motive System

4) Adv Droid Frame Unit

5) Droid Sensor Package

6) Manipulator Arm

Those I found to be the "basics" and will help ya get started.. GP Mods, Mem Mods and Control Units (make sure you always have some), and if your not a Master Artisan.. You better learn the profession or find a best friend that is one.. You wont be able to function without it.
