Thread: Fear the R3 Droid!

Hm,

I'm pretty optimistic after seeing some of the coming Droid Changes Thunderheart mentioned in Publish 7 and Publish 8. But, has anyone heard whether or not the Advanced Binary Load Lifter will be upgraded to hold 6 modules? As cool as the Advanced R3 is, I just can't see an Astromech Droid with a Carbine duct taped to the top of its glass dome instilling fear into the hearts of its enemies.

Unless it was programmed to talk like the Terminator or something.

I think it would be kewl to have them swap out those burger patty flippers on the BLL droid for some gatlin cannons...

At least give the rebels some chance against an ATST

The original post said that combat modules could only be put into combat droids. My guess is that an R3 unit doesn't count as a combat droid.

Just because the original post says that the strongest droid will hold six maxed out combat modules everyone is assuming that this means there will be droids capable of holding six combat modules right out of the gate. My personal guess is that this isn't going to be the case.

Right now (or when the publish goes live)probably the best combat droid will be an advanced probot with its slots loaded up with combat modules. This will give the developers room to see how strong the new droids are, make sure they don't need to be nerfed, and then release new chassis that can hold more modules.

Of course this is just a guess on my part.

My guess is the Droidika would be the combat droid with the 6 slots. Not that it would be coming out in publish 8.

I doubt highly that the R3 or any Astromech for that matter will be put in the combat roll.

My 2 cents

Astromechs will be combat capable.

They almost released code to test early - there was a fix where "astromechs unable to fire". This was not released to test after all - but when the devs struck it from the list, they said that it wasn't being released "yet".

In any case, don't you remember the scene in Episode IV, where CHewie is playing BattleChess against R2 and gets irate? When Han Solo warned the droids that wookies pulled the arms out of people when they loose, and R2 singed his fur with the warning shot?

Also, the more I think about it, the more I think that the system will be the same L1-L6 system that we have now, and that Tunderheart just doesn't know the first thing about droid crafting, so he got his wording wrong. I hope I am right - this will allow a master to drop a L6 combat module in a BLL (I hope...)

My suspicion is that there is going to be a new slot available on droid chassis. Just like there is a defensive harness slot, there will be an offensive harness slot. When I read the posting, the first thing that came to my mind was that a droid can have 1-6 slots and each available slot can be filled. So, a new R2 schematic may have 2 offensive slots and a probot may have 6. That means the offensive modules are created identicaly, but there are limited numbers allowed to go into a droid chassis. Because of the stacking statement, I would think that a droid with 2 offensive slots would simulate the light damage that R2 demonstrated and more slots would simulate a more combat capable droid. Think of the 2 defensive harness slots on an advancedprobot.

R2-D2's "warning shot" at Chewbacca was probably done with the same "welder beam" that you see an R2 unit using in the starports, over and over and over.

A welder type beam would singe a wookiee's fur, but not be a "weapon" as such. But it could, with practice...... nahh, won't even go there. lol

I feel bad for that droid. He just cannot fix that terminal.

One hell of a long lasting battery in him, though.

Warning shot? I don't remember R2 ever zapping Chewbacca with a warning shot. Aren't you thinking about the warning shot he gave to one of the ewoks in Episode VI?

I would think that R2 would be in little bitsy pieces right now if he ever zapped Chewbacca. From my recollection of the chess game, R2 simply made a move that Chewbacca didn't like, Chewbacca raised a stink, C3PO gets the warning about wookies from Han, and C3PO tells R2 to let the wookie win. That was the end of it.

I don't know what an R3 is. But have you seen those spiffy new R2's with clear domes? Man, those are wicked!
