Back in beta, I aspired to DE but realised that the droid was a fashion not function accessory... I follow your DE lives still.... Sitting here bored, avoiding RL... I got to thinking.

1) How to Implement the Protocol Droid

A player clicks (i.e a wookie) on a protocol droid and select translate. The Droid then essentially echoes everything that the Wookie says in basic.

Viola!

2) Unlearn Languages
----------------------------------------
Let us unlearn languages so that the great, skinny, shiny-one can translate and have meaning.



Again this would aid the whole issue of more "Star Wars feel" that is a common concern amongst the pop-ulace.

That is the coolest thing I have read in a long time. GREAT IDEA.

I think not being able to learn languages at all might be a good idea, or have a really long term delay on language learning (eg:A week, like stat migration).

This would create a market for protocol droids and be more star-warsy. I cant really speak more than two languages, how could my character learn 6 in 5 minutes.

Perhaps introduce language caps? 3 max languages? Or have it related to your mind. 1 language per 200 mind points.

Sadly although great ideas I don't seeing any of this happening. People would whine like mad if they counldn't speak to each other at this late stage.

I suppose you could always use /gc or /tell

Unlearning languages would be a choice thing... A lot of RP'ers want this option.

A great idea, and i like the learning 3 languages max idea also. But either 2 thing will happen im my eyes.

1. something like this will be implemented, thus having a use for protocol droids.

or

2. taking protocols out of the game (which wont happen), or making a use for them that has nothing to do with translating.

In addition to the protocol droid functions that you have mentioned above, I would also like to see:

1) The ability of the protocol droid to give the upcoming 'Politician' class some skill bonuses.

2) The ability to enable ad barking (as on vendors) for the Protocol Droid.

3)When you have the protocol droid out, reduce the chance that sentient mobs will aggro on you.

As to your second point, about surrendering languages...you can and I have.

/surrenderskill social_language_twilek_comprehend

Other race choices (other than twilek) are: wookiee, zabrak, rodian, trandoshan, moncalamari, bothan, lekku.

You can also change 'comprehend' to 'speak' to remove your ability to speak the language.

One guy suggested that havingprotocol droid would allow you to get missions from Jawas, Tuskens, Gungans etc... Essentially those NPCs that nobody can currently interact with because of the "language barrier". It would introduce new content with some "different" side quests, among other things.

It could also reduce the chance that mobs would go aggro

Then you'd just have to hope if they put in a cap on how many languages you can learn that everyone didnt chose the same language would kill the RP of it.

Though I guess the true RP'rs would speak their native tongue ...

Either way great idea I'd love to see it.
