Thread: Droids. What can they do?

Help guys. I'm probably going to grind my way to Novice DE by tomorrow night. I've been soooo excited about being a DE because it sounds so cool! I'm not really even keen on hyper-grinding my way to mastery. I just want to enjoy making and using droids.

Okay, so....

What can they do? So I hear, I'll soon be able to make a little cat-box with legs called an MSE. It will have one general slot and no armour slots. So far so good.

What can I put in the general slot? If I make it storage will it hold just one thing? That would suck. How about the data storage? What's that, an alternative storage place for my bike so there's another place for me toNOT be able to get it from when it dissapears while surveying? I've also heard about medical modules that I can't use. What use are they to healer characters? Do they allow them to heal away from medical clinics/camps? Or do they just buff the healer? I understand that we can put crafting stations in them, but that doesn't seem too useful to me (call me stupid if I am). After all the only time I've needed to craft away from home there's been one available for me right there, in town.

Anyway, please just give me some sort of idea of what can be done with droids? How can I make them useful for other players?

Thanks,

O-Jen

O-Jen, welcome to the profession. Check out this thread. It has a very good summary:

And there I thought you were giving out your special web link again.

Heehee. O-Jen's an IDEA member. I take care of my fellow DEs.

These aren't the holo grinders you're looking for.

Welcome O-Jen!

With all the loaded questions you asked, I was about to call you a troll, but since I know ya, I'll just say hi

For all our complaining, that's probably why most of us stick around. We just like droids. Too bad they kinda suck.

What can they do? So I hear, I'll soon be able to make a little cat-box with legs called an MSE. It will have one general slot and no armour slots. So far so good.

It'll have wheels, not legs. It has no armor slots, but 90% of the droids that can take one don't use it.

Depends on the level of the storage module, but from the get go, yes. Just one item. And yes. It does suck.

How about the data storage?

I believe that's five waypoints, could be wrong.

What's that, an alternative storage place for my bike so there's another place for me toNOT be able to get it from when it dissapears while surveying?

Negatory.

I've also heard about medical modules that I can't use. What use are they to healer characters? Do they allow them to heal away from medical clinics/camps? Or do they just buff the healer?

Heal away from hospitals and camps, slowly. That's it.

I understand that we can put crafting stations in them, but that doesn't seem too useful to me (call me stupid if I am). After all the only time I've needed to craft away from home there's been one available for me right there, in town.

This is, in fact, the only thing I use droids for. It works as a private crafting station, so you can craft away from home. Somewhat handy.

Anyway, please just give me some sort of idea of what can be done with droids? How can I make them useful for other players?

You're going to be incredibly poor until you get to blueprints 3. For the most part, people want the medical module in anything, and will pay around 1000 for an MSE with one (if you're lucky).

Thanks,

O-Jen

You're welcome.

/sigh

Thanks for the information. I had hoped for more, but since I'm so close I'll try it anyway.

Fu'bar, what's a troll? It doesn't sound good. Send me a /tell if I'm becoming one.

Just a couple of points:

First off, someone said you could put waypoints in droid data storage.

I wish. The only thing that can be put into droid data storage is a manufacturing schematic (well, I understand the story-arc data disks fit, too).

As for crafting stations, there is a fundamental difference between private-class crafting stations, like you'll find in someone's home, and the public ones around the starting cities. The public stations are limited in that they only allow you to craft items up to a certain complexity. We get posts here at least twice a week asking "Why can't I make X? I'm standing right by a crafting station!!!! This game is broken!!!! I know I have the schematic!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Droid crafting stations are a mobile equivalent to the private version, and can be VERY useful.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.

lol, you're not one. A troll is a person that asks a knowingly leading question just to draw flames. Kind of like trolling when you're fishing.

Hey thanks for the tip on the data modules. They don't sound so great, unless I can put more droids or vehicles in there. Can I do that? What would be the benefit of putting a schematic in a droid? Would that allow someone to make something they don't have their own schematic for?

Oh, my head hurts.

And thanks for the help. I got Novice DE today. Made a MSE. It's useless, but cute.
