Yes I am a non-DE and own 5 droids. I like droids. Why you ask? Because they hold stuff and the stuff they hold doesn't decay if I die. It's pretty neat. I can also give them a clever name. SometimesI use one for crafting on the off chance that I'm far from home and Ineed something that I don't already have on me at the time.

It's really not very Star Wars is it?

They SHOULD just let you guys craft battle droids, droidekas and super battle droids...I mean why not? They could just require rare materials, drain batteries like mad and be vulnerable to certain types of attacks (like electricity). Surely they would not even be as tough as many of the pets we see and if you use the arguement that creatures require a profession just look at the negatives I've mentioned. I also seem to remember droids in Star Wars not being too good at following orders....there's a thought...droid quirks....
