Folks,
I am looking to pick up a droid to help me with my Med skills and I am confused about the options. Currently as far as I can see it I could get a Surgical Droid or another cheaper droid (i.e an R4) and put in a level 6 med unit. The later option seems to work out cheaper. My question is this...why should I go for a Surgical Droid when I can get a cheaper droid that does the same thing? Is there something specialthat the surgical droid does that the others dont?
Cheers

They were supposed to have a medical rating of 110, without having a mecial 6 module in them. But they do not. Also heard they were supposed to heal, but they do not. Right now no advantages having a Surgical Droid over any other with a Medical 6 Module installed.

Currently there is no reason (beyond aesthetic) to purchase a surgical droid over an R type droid. Surgical droids have no innate special abilities and the medical module will function just as well in an R type droid.
That said, there's a certain something to be said for aesthetics. Are you still running around in your newbie clothes or did you shell out some credits for a new suit of clothes. Does that clothing give you any extra abilities?
The other thing to consider is that quite possibly the surgical droids will be given special abilities in the future. I know a lot of people think they won't and that droid modules are all that matters but there are already multiple droids in game with special abilities (power droids, probots, and DZ70s) and there are several others that have to be given some ability outside of modules to be any real use at all (lifters and basic protocol droids). These facts along with obvious unfixed errors like the fact that you can use a general socket modular cluster in any droid socket spot make me assume that there's lots of unfinished things with droids and special functions for most of them is probably one of the unfinsihed features.

The only thing that the Surgical Droid has that the R droids do not is a Personality Chip. If you want a droid with a personality go with the Surgical Droid.. if not go with an R droid or even an MSE.

Yeah, you can put a personality chip in a Surgical Droid, but you can also put one into an LE Repair droid or a Protocol Droid (which would actually be more expensive than a Surgical Droid)
While I'm not sold on the idea that the surgical droid is 'suppose to have 110 medical and autoheal wounds', which is a constant rumor, I do assume they will eventually have some sort of special function to separate them from an LE Repair Droid with a medical module.
