Thread: Upcoming Permadeath Fix Why are DE's dependant on Bio Engineers?
> 2) I disagree. I constantly (daily even) get messages from people asking about droid batteries. The combat type people don't seem to know or care that they are Engineer-Artisan made items. I think we'll have plenty of business even if these are artisan items.
Clarification - I agree the combat types couldn't care less what skills it takes to make it, nor should they. But 90% of the time, the person they buy their droid from will be they by their droid supplies from, and I will make a ton of these. Bio-engineers (I assume) get Bio-engineer for their pet stims, why shouldn't we get droid xp for our droid stims. I get enough GXCP already, I dont need any more.
And I'm not worried about loosing business, I will probably make droid stims by the crate (same way i make batteries), something novice artisans probably won't be able to afford (as most of them don't have factories). But GCXP for me is just a waste, as most DE's are already Master Artisan out of necessity due to the number electronics they need.
If they add droid powerups in the future, those should go into the Artisan tree along with all the other powerups, but staple droid consumables should go in the DE tree.
Because, as usual, the devs havent thought this through and are just going for the 'quick fix' rather than take the time to get it right (although I can see the need for the swift removal of perma-death, its killed droid sales totally)
I don't think we are going to have anything to do with BE's, as far as vitality packs are concerned.
Although many things make little sense around here, using an organic med pack on a droid is just...toomuch.
My personal feeling is that there will not be any way to repair droid vitality, only the HAM bars, so eventually the droids will die - which would be the best of both worlds for us.

So reading the test center patch notes, you can find these little snippets.
- Droid pets will suffer vitality loss the same as CH pets do (instead of permanent death)
- There is no mechanism in place to heal the white bar of a droid. We are going to add a repair kit for droids that artisans can make. This should take care of things for you.
Woohoo, so droids will now have a somewhat predicatable rate of decay as they slowly wear out, and can be repaired as they go along. I think this well be pretty good overall.
Except there are a couple new weird inconsistancies/dependancies that should be addressed now before these things go live.
1) To repair 'pet' (i.e. livingvitality), Bio-engineer need to create the Vitality packs. Hold on here, my customers now need to go see a Bio-Engineer to get their droids repaired as they wear down??? Please make a Droid-only vitality pack that Droid Engineers can make. Put it in the customization tree, (make it customization and repair tree) to give that tree more use.But there is no good reason to add this cross-class dependancy.
2) White bar repair kits should not be artisan items! This should be a staple product for Novice DE's. I will make a TON of these things for customers, and I nor other DE's want any more General crafting experience than we already get from the 100's of GP chips we have to make. Give something to the Novice DE's to sell! Basic pet stims are a bio-engineer (elite class) item why shouldn't 'droid' stims be the same.

I think this is an excellent point. I'm strongly in favor of making droid repair kits a DE-crafted item.

I'm working on the assumption that the devs are going to reuse the existing creature vitality code for droids. There are already hints of how this will work currently, as I and several other folks have had droids incapped with out getting killed. The result has been a droid with a 98/100 vitiality rating with a new radial option (in the datapad) called 'Use vitality Pack'.

I understand why its being done, I'm just trying to force a little bit of discussion before it goes live and my customers start asking me for vitality packs that I as a Droid Engineer can't provide them
