Can a non-DE use them? I want to color my droid but I would prefer to color it myself. I'm a bit picky! Also, I heard it wears off after 20 calls or so. I call my droid out each time I land in the Starport. So that'll fade fast. I would like to just color it myself whenever it needs it done.

Can I do that? If not, would just getting novice DE give me enough options to make my droid look good?

Okay, to be honest, I just don't trust other people with my droid....

To answer your questions...

1) Droid Engineers are the only ones who can use Droid Customization Kits to customize droid color schemes

2) If being able to use a DCK yourself instead of letting a DE do it for you is that important to you (or you are too paranoid to let one do it for you), then by all means climb up the Engineering skill tree until you can get Novice Droid Engineer

I'm a tailor/weaponsmith... won't be too out of my way to get novice DE. It's not that I'm "paranoid" just I like options and I like to know what they are. And since I can't see my options if a DE does it, I would prefer to do it myself.

But will my color selection be too limited without 0041 and then master sincethose box give additional mods to customization?

the kit gives you access to all colors available (all of them available for that particular droid that is)

also, you dont have to transfer the droid to anyone, just /consent the DE and he can paint it for you

Thanks all... I got novice DE!

I got out my good steel, some copper and made vehicles. Then ran to my harvestor to get some more materiels to fill in for copper. Within about 10 minutes I went from 0 xp to 28k. I also ended up with some vehicles to put on my vendor!

And let me tell you, DE is great! I don't think I can learn much more other then novice, but being able to color my own droid is well worth it. I might always learn less of merchant and more of DE in time if I get bored of tailor/weaponsmith or DE becomes more appealing.

Just out of curiousity... Does anyone advertise droid customizations? And if so, how much you charge?

I was thinking I might be able to make some money doing that. And I am so relieved when I heard I get all the colors. That was the only thing that bugged me.

I don't really advertise droid colorization as a service. Most of the time I colorize droids as people order them for as an incentive. However, a few times I've gotten requests for the service, which I've charged 1k to perform.

A DE can colorize your droid's frame if you just use /consent. That will allow access to the droid temporarily. Just remember to use /unconsent after finished.

That said, though, I have been having trouble with colorizing droids lately. Seems bugged since last patch so be careful.

I don´t charge for customization. I also don´t charge customers coming back torenewal their droids colors.
I get 8 charges out of a custom. kit and since I only need a few ressources and a control unit (I´m in the fortunate position to just tell one of our master artisans to run a schem. of CUs or the other parts from time to time), its not hurting me. For me its fun and part of the process of the deal to color them.
Now its totally ok if you want to charge for this since its one of only a few things you are able to do if you´re "only" a novice DE (nothing bad about it). I would go with one of the usual formulas, I don´t know, ressource costs 2 times or whatever.
