I was going to post this on the SWG Discussion boards...but theres a lot of holo related posts...and well you get the idea.
well anyway I'm not a DE or architect, but I had an idea that might benefit both your professions.
it would involve 2 parts...1 would be a DE created "control" module for use in any (or even restricted droid types) type of droid.
the 2nd would be an architect subcomponent...again created by a DE. this subcomponent would be the "remote access" component, and could be added to harvesters as an optional component during final assembly.
the way it would work is this:
a DE crafts both types of subcomponents...for example 1 "control" module, and lets say 10 "remote access" components. the DE then places the module into a nice shiny new droid, and sells the 10 remote acess components to a master architect. the master architect then takes those components and creates 10 heavy mineral harvesters. now these can either be sold as a lot together, or seperately, for arguments sake lets say they are sold as a lot. a miner comes in and purchases the lot for x amount of credits (most likely over a million credits since heavies are over 100k each). said miner then sets up his heavies just like any other (perhaps there might be a new radial option to turn remote access on, and set permissions for who can do such things...much like the administration option). that miner then returns to town, goes to another planet...does some factional mission grinding, and then logs out. 2 days later, said miner logs back in and wonders "hmmmm I wonder if my harvesters are out of stuff to mine"....he then pulls out his nice shiny new droid, and selects a new radial option "remote access"...which pulls up a list of all the harvesters he has admin/remote access permissions to. this lets him use the "operate machinery" option from the harvester radial menu....without actually being there. said miner checks all 10 of his heavies, and seeing that they are all still pulling up his minerals...promptly goes back to factional grinding, with the contentment that he has not just wasted 40 minutes in transit back and forth to his mines....giving him 40 more mintes to actually play the game.
well sorry for the really long paragraph...just wanted to illustrate how the 2 new items would be used. I know a lot (maybe all) of the miners out there would LOVE this kind of capability...they'd probably give their left foot for it (well maybe not but pretty close). you wouldn't be able to deposit power, or pay administration fees...just change the resources its pulling up, turn it on, or off, etc....maybe even check its status (see if it needs power/maintenance).
