Thread: My First Full Day as a MDE

I logged in last night wearing my shiny new "Master Droid Engineer" title above my head thinking that this was going to be a great day. For the first time in months, I don't have any experience bars on my screen because I'm not concerned with gaining any for at least a little while. I settle down to do some general housecleaning before making the daily harvester runs and open my email.

That's when the most hectic night of my SWG career began. Because of referrals from my PA. I had 3 emails requesting price quotes for droids. I answered the emails and went on with life. The next set of emails took me by surprise. The crates of BH droids and batteries that had been on my vendor for over a week had been cleaned out by multiple people visiting my shop. Empty, nada, the cupboard was bare. I couldn't believe it.

I pull out my trusty crafting droid to make some schematics for new crates and alas, I hadn't been keeping track of my parts inventories and was out of EMM modules. I was also short on inert gas and polymer so I'm thinking that I'll make a quick hop to town and get a few stacks from the bazzar.

Luckily, I decided to visit the harvesters before taking the shuttle and come to find that the steel that I had been mining had shifted. I dodge red-con mobs while re-deeding the harvesters and taking a quick survey find that no decent steel exists on Naboo at the moment. I put the harvesters out of my mind for the time being and hop the shuttle to Theed. Buy my resources and head back to the shop.

What I'm failing to mention is that in the time it's taken me to do all of this, I have received 4 tells from people who are interested in droids, so for those that are playing at home here is what I'm juggling:

3 Emails sent with price quotes
Nothing on the vendor
No EMMs to make more BH droids to restock the vendor
5 Medium BER 10 minerals sitting in my inventory instead of mining
4 Sepperate conversations with perspective buyers

I get home and make the schematic for the EMMs and head to the factory. Load the resources, load the schematic and head back home (The smart ones amoung you will already have figured out where this step went bad). I have a guild event to attend so I put droids out of my mind for a bit and head to the PA hall. (Well, I couldn't put it completely out of my mind since I will still talking to 4 people about droids).

After the event, I head back to the house with confirmed orders for three droids. I begin crafting and place them on the vendor so that my buyers can pick them up at their leisure. I receive some tells from PA members that need to replace some vehicles and tell them to come on over. They arrive and I begin crafting an X34 for a guildie and accidentially check on practice mode at the end of crafting (Old habits die hard) and poof, there go a lot of steel and copper. No sense crying over spilled milk and I load up another crafting tool with resources and made the best X34 that I have ever created. This 98% tank will stand up to a real beating. My guildie is so happy with the quaility that he is about to have kittens. I have another guild customer for a swoop and feeling so happy with my success over the night that I load up the crafting tool with resouces and "Bahhhhh.....a critical fail" and thousands more resources hit the bit bucket. I succeed on the next one and hand it over feeling a lot more bothan that godlike as I felt after the unbelieveable X34.

Before logging out, I figured I'd check on my factory run and see about creating some singles of BH droids to put on the vendor so that I wouldn't be completely dry and lo and behold...drumroll....I forgot to activate the factory. Cursing myself, I started it up and kept swearing at myself during the ride back to the shop. I sat down and issued the /logoff command and got 15 seconds into it when I remembered that I still had the deeds to the harvesters in my inventory. I stood up to cancel the logout and headed back into the wilderness and found a nice spot of copper 1Km from my home. I placed the harvesters, checked maintenance and power and remembered to start them up.

I rode back home and logged out ending my first full day as a MDE, a full two hours after I really needed to logout and go to bed. Climbing into my real life bed to get some real life sleep, I realized that I had more fun tonight than in the previous six months of playing. Thank you SOE and thank you everybody on this forum for the help. It was a blast, can't wait for tomorrow.

Lol, yup that is how most of my days are accept at some point you gotta set some quiet time asside to grind 10 or 20k of steel and fibreplast and it never fails...you will just get your schematic nailed down and start the macro and bang three /tells for droids! Of course with everyone, you have to explain the entire run down like these people are investing in a **edit**ing house, so your /r is this long sentence response, but it wont get out cause another person just /telled you. Errrgh I hate that. Then there is always someone that wants you deliverhis 5k r4 to a different planet and cant understand why the galactic transportation commisionextracted a 2kS/H feeand now his droid cost 7k and he is having second thoughts about buying it.

Once your a MDE, don't bother delivering Droids. I don't want to be Elitest or anything, but you will spend a lot of time traveling and it won't be fun. Did you have fun delivering all those Droids while you where climbing up the ranks? I sure didn't.

Get a Vendor near a nice popular city and make all your sales from there. Even ones that you get through an Email Order. Once I fill an Email Order, I put it in my vendor, and email him/her back with the Waypoint to my Vendor.

As a devils advocate ( I deliver some of my droids ), It does give you the oppertunity to survey those distant planets for resources.

This is, by far, one of the most heartwarming posts I've read in quite a while concerning Droid Engineers. Welcome to mastership matey

I have a shop that I share with a Master Tailor that is about 800m or so SE of coronet... if somebody is in town, I'll deliver the droid but if its on another planet or half way across the planet I'm on I usually don't. People generally don't mind making the trip for thier item(s), and understand if you are busy and can't make the trip. There will always be people who get surly and snappy that don't want to run outside of the city for a droid, 800m or no. Even with a vehicle. Whatever

Hehe, who says crafting isn't fun and exciting!?

Ever wonder why some of us travel with the MA tag on?
