Thread: Is it worth becoming a DE
The grinding is longer and harder, with more mineral burns, than either of the aforementioned professions. And for it we make about 1/4th to 1/5th what an armoursmith or weaponsmith can make for their wares. Following that, people need weapons and armour, but they don't need droids, so it's also a harder sale. Lastly, most everyone has no idea what functions a droid does have so you have to explain everything to every customer you have every time you make a sale.
With that said, Droid Engineer is one of the most unique and interesting professions to play and to level in because at every step in the climb you get new and interesting things to play with. Moreover, droids are the most customizable thing in the game and building custom orders is very interesting. As the player's guide said, "While there have been droid engineers who have become rich mass producing a popular line of droids..." (HAHAHAHAHA) "...It is the crafting ofthat unique droidwhich makes this profession truly fun"
I'd have to say right now it's not worth it. Droids lack any individual function and there really seems to be no structure behind the droids and modules that are in game now.
Maybe after the next 2 big patches things will change for this profession, but at the present time you really have to like making droids to stick it out here.
Long story short... Only be a DE if you like making droids.
Don't do it right now for any other reason, becuase really there isn't any other reason to be a DE. Also if you want to become a really good DE, becoming a master artisan is a requirement as a lot of our parts that go in almost every droidcome from themaster artisanskill box.
I really wish I could say it's worth it and that this profession is amazing. Hopefully after the next 2 patches I'll be able to start saying some good things about the profession. However right now it's very obvious that there are too many bugs and exploits to make this a viable profession. When a Novice DE can make the same droids a Master DE can through GSM bugs it kind of ruins things for everyone.

Well, to be honest he is absolutely correct. There isn't much difference between droids. A novice can use an exploit to cram everything possible into a droid just the same as a master droid eng can, so there isn't much reason to be a master right now. It is a painfullymajor issue that has not been fixed for months even with all the crying we do.
I ask the original posters question every time I log in. As I grind up the tree, I find that very little works as advertised, and that which does works has so little a market as to make it virtualy worthless. It's very disappointing to say the least.
Has anything about this proffesion really changed since the end of Beta? Have any of the major bugs been eliminated? People seem to be putting alot of faith in the upcoming patches, but I'd rather know what they've done so far.

I can think of a couple things that were fixed, but should never have happened in the first place.
1). Items do not vanish out of item storage in a droid anymore.
2). Droids no longer die a permanent death on destruction. (this wasn't a bug per-say but a way for the Dev's to try and get rid of a bunch of the pre-patch super probots. It worked...)
Hmmm, there must be a couple more.
This is how mine is. I started out as a medic, then I wanted to build things, Then I Wanted to build droids, as Soon as I hit Blueprint's I, I stoped working on it and decided to work on my acutect profession that im doing on my character as well.

With that said, HOPEFULLY the next couple of months will see a MAJOR improvement for droid engineers as a whole. No more novice making the same thing a master can make, while keeping the novice viable. It has been a rediculously painful road for DE's, but we are all hoping it makes out to bea good choice. If you like making droids, keep with it. If not....go do something else in game.
