Thread: Idea for Binary Load Lifters

I'm sure this idea's gotten tossed around before... but:

What if Binary Load Lifters were made to do exactly what they're supposed to? Lift loads and carry large amounts of items?

Would be nice to see Load Lifters have an inventory space of say 100 to 200 units, but where that storage is available only while the droid is deployed, so you'd actually have to have it follow you around as you're hauling cargo or moving items from one place to another (and so you can't just stash it into your datapad for 200 units free storage). I know these things implemented as suchwould be enormously useful for moving from one house to another, or from hauling resources and crafting components around. Not to mention being kind of "Star Warsy" to see them do what they're actually supposed to do.

they are nerfing all vendors in the game to save database space. do you really think they would even consider bloating the db for droids to have useful storage?

Nightly, SOE already sacrifices chickens to the Server Gods so that there servers don't melt under the weight of theirbloated database. They're crying about scores ofitems stored on personal vendors already, I'd hate to imagine how pathetic they'd be with even more items to track.

I think your idea is nice... namely giving BLL's more storage capacity than other droids, and it has been tossed around before. Expect this idea to be read by SOE and then promptly ignored. They've got chickens to catch.

SLOW DOWN, guys!

The original suggestion is for a droid which CAN'T BE PUT AWAY while it is carrying items! So it would really only be useful for transporting large numbers of goods from place to place, such as when moving house, or taking inventory from a factory to a shop.

I think that's a FANTASTIC idea, as without persistent, in-datapad storage, there is no additional database load, and the BLL suddenly really does exactly what it seems designed to do!

Obviously, there are issues to address, like what happens if you're stranded in the middle of nowhere with your fully-loaded 200-item Advanced BLL when the server crashes! But properly handled this could be an awesome thing.

Please note: Since the need for these would be sporadic, one could conceivably go into business renting out the services of such droids.

I'm gonna five-star this one, wish I could ten-star it.

Rho,

I think it's a good idea... I just don't think SOE would do anything that would enable more storage options for it's players.

SOE has proven itself unwilling and unable to grant positive storage/item options from release. The great Melon nerf of 2003(tm) was done due to database issues (and that wasn't even related to vendors). Ideas were floated around for saddlebag item storageforcreature mountsonce (which promptly fell on deaf ears). Storage in your bank vault lists at 100 items, but go ahead and try to fill it.... it limits you to much less. Player storage was at one time 100 units in beta (I believe), then they lowered it to 60. Even this persistent BLL idea would probably force SOE tojam new code into their extremely limited / extremely backwards / extremely monolithic creature pet code.... the same code that prevents master droid engineers from having a single probot out AND a creature mount.

An innovative, forward-thinking idea pitched towardsan unimaginative, backwards-thinking development team.

There is also the factory BLL idea as well.

Rho, that sounded great and all up until you said the two words that spell doom for implementation.

"Properly handled"

I just don't see how SOE can guarantee any kind of stability in temporary storage space (vehicles vanishing). Customers would want to take it out on us. If we could get BLLs to have 100 units of REAL storage space, that would be a REAL advantage and we could charge a few 100k for these babies. Unfortunately since SOE refuses to replace the rubber-bands and hamsters that power their servers, I forsee the BLL to continue it's current use: To thoroughly insult anyone who manages to become a MDE.

OK guys, yes, I know the reality! I added the 'properly handled' caveat for that very reason. :-)

Seriously, though, the primary concern is indeed autostoring of the droid, or client crashes or whatever leaving things in an undefined state. If, and it's a GIGANTIC if, answers could be found to these situations, this would be awesome.

Granted, one could not move from one planet to another using such a scheme...

It may not be a practical, realizable suggestion. But doggoneit, I LIKE this idea.

I think a cool idea is having them move crates from factory or house using patrol points like when a factory is running have it constantly patroll between the factory and shop even when you arnt online. That way you could start a factory and a BLL running from your factory and a shop that may be 5000m away and get back for more crates. Or have it wait and then run the items to a client. I mean either way the items would be in the database no matter what. I don't think the devs should stop fixing things because of a database issue. We pay $15 a month for them add stuff to the game and fix there own problems I dont see that stuff happening monthly I think they need to fix there problems in another matter than nerfing us and give us $50 + $15 for every month we pay worth of content. The monthly story hasnt changed since I got this game 4 months ago I mean come on. What do the devs do with the money we all send em? Speand it on vacations? It just doesnt seem like the money is worth it when they take there problems out on us.
