Thread: Cure for the droid certifications discussion
First off, this topic drives me nuts to see over and over, there are people on both sides. I personally scoff atthe idea of a DE using all droids they can make. Don't youthink WS wish they could choose to use any weapon they can make? Anyway, on to the cure.
First you start with experimentation on a combat droid deed only effecting the durability. Then inorder to make a combat droid that is usable by anyone and really makes a lot of commerce flow, The DE must purchase Armor schematics from an AS, and weapon schematics from a WS. These must be placed in slots in the droid. No other slots should be available. Stats for armor/combat will be determined by the schematic that was put in there. It takes same amount of material and experimenting to make a schematic as it does to make a real item, so no real balancing issue with how to set up combat modules. This also makes it so no one has a droid that does 3500 damage. Because no pre-nerf weapons would be usable only fresh made schematics. If you want a droid with a good weapon then find a good WS to make the schematic. If you want an uber droid then get the WS to make a Krayt Tissue enhanced schematic. (hold on to your wallet, it's about to seizure). Same for armor now. To get good armor on a droid you get an AS to make composite components. Limit the schematics to Marksman weapons only so you can't use elite profession weapon schematicslike LLC or Flamethrower in a droid.Droid weaponry would not have anyspecial abilities like Bleed or Stopping shot. They just fire at speed determined by schematic. And schematics are not sliceable. (My apologies to Smugglers). So this isn't very far fetched. Would need no real certifications or limitations put on the droids or classes for this. you get what you pay for, and it's limited to currently available in game items.I think it fair that you can only have 1 combat droid out at a time. You should also be able to have a repair/power droid out if not in combat. Maybe DE are only ones that can repair a droid in combat with a kit like a stim.If you are a BH and you want a companion to get the job done (like my vendar barks when you walk near it) then you can pull out your Roger-Roger and group him to help you. It's not much different then having a faction pet out (except you can use themfor more than faction fighting). I know this will tweak a nerve with CH as they were just seriously nerfed on the non-ch market of pets, but this is more realistic to the SW universe.
With this in mind, that listing for data on the Bazaar and vendors might not take up needless space on the Bazaar server. The crafting community would also start to come together better with the dependency on each other. Yes some people would would get DE/WS or DE/AS, but they are already out there.
1 Roger-Roger Chassis 20k, 1 Krayt Composite Armor Module Schematic 100k, 1 Krayt Republic Blaster Schematic 100k, 1 droid that can help fight and not get the big NERF in a month - Priceless.
