Thread: The IMPORTANT things that have got left out of the Droid Invasion

I know people go over subjects like this a million times, but I just want to get this off my chest. After experiencing Publish 7 on live and reading thoroughly through the intended changes for Publish 8, I've compiled a small list of things *I* personaly think are very important to this profession that is being left out of our biggest (and likely to be only) set of publishes. If you agree or have more to add, feel free to post. Remember that there is still time to convince the devs to make changes for publish 8.

Things that were left out:

  • Ability for DE's to have more than one droid called at once - How many of you would like to stand in the street with 5 droids sitting in a row waiting for your next customer to sell them off too? I, personaly, would love to sell my droids in a similar manner to the "line up" the Jawa's had in ANH.

  • Ability for DE's to have more than 5 droids stored depending on their DE skill - I realise this brings up the issue of extra droids = extra storage space = more stress on the database, but we all want DE to have some droid abilities that non-DE do not. I think one of those abilities should include a greater number of stored droids depending on your DE skill.

  • Ability to have a droid called at the same time as a pet - This was "supposed" to have been added in Publish 7 but I am still unable to have a mount and a droid called at the same time. Maybe it will go in with Publish 8, but I am very doubtfull.

  • Chasis for the following droids: WED Treadwell, Advanced R5, Advanced DZ-70, Advanced MSE Mouse - Possibility of being added in Publish 8, but doubtfull.

  • Increased information being displayed on droid deads - We *ALL* want the info on droid deeds to be changed. A droid deed should show the overal medical ability, overal storage capacity, all crafting stations, armour rating, armour resists, HAM and combat details (to hit, speed and dmg range). All of this information is VERY important when selling a droid

  • Ability to colour a droid during construction and have the colour remain when the droid is tamed - This was in during beta when we didn't have to use deeds and it was VERY handy. Now that droids retain colours, I would like to see this come back in.

  • Increased amount on droid customisation - 20 calls is not enough considering you have to store/call everytime you shuttle. For a DE traveling around selling droids I find I have to re-paint my R2 praticaly every day. This should be increased to ATLEAST 100 calls.

  • R2 units to gain a "default customisation". Randomly changing colours until painted may be ok with some customers, but with many it has become a reason NOT to own an R2 unit. If we have to suffer customisation fading then these droids should gain a default colour like all the rest. Idealy, the default colour should be dynamic and set back tothe colour used during the droid's construction.

  • Ability to name "talking" droids

  • Ability to use numbers in the droid name

  • Multiple crafting stations now work in the same droid, but having multiple droids within 10m with multiple crafting stations causes them to stop functioning

And things I think should be added as an "extra":

  • Include all of the combat models that have already been created by the arts department. Even if they remain as level 10 pets, the DE community is begging for new droids to build. Since these have already been done, I suggest giving the community what they want .. droideka, battledroids etc.. however weak they are.

can't help but agree too...its a good list

And, you are right, we will likely not have the Dev's attention for a long, long, time after Pub 8.

Ya know, I sometimes feel like a little kid asking my mum for chocolate when I post things like this.. I get this image of me as a lil kiddy saying:

"and and and.. I want one of those! and one of those! and that BIG one! Oh that one too! Can I have three? Are we nearly there yet? You said I could have it tomorrow last week... its SO unfair!"

The life of a DE, huh?

  • Ability for DE's to have more than one droid called at once -

Ya !

  • Ability for DE's to have more than 5 droids stored depending on their DE skill -

Ya !

  • I realise this brings up the issue of extra droids = extra storage space =

The way to fix that is simply to put a cap of 50 max items stored in data pad storage stuff. Just like your inventory is limited no matter how many (unequipped) packs and pouches you carry.

But,, they would have to do a little programing to accomplish this. I wont hold my breath.

  • Ability to have a droid called at the same time as a pet -

Ya !

  • Increased information being displayed on droid deads - We *ALL* want the info on droid deeds to be changed.

Ya ! ALL, the info !

I would Add,

  • Ability to Redeed Droids

Ya !

  • Ability to name "talking" droids
  • Ability to use numbers in the droid name

  • Ability to colour a droid during construction and have the colour remain when the droid is tamed -
  • Increased amount on droid customisation -

Ya, all would be nice. But not as urgent as above

  • Chasis for the following droids: WED Treadwell, Advanced R5, Advanced DZ-70, Advanced MSE Mouse -

They say that deeds will display the droid when dropped in publish 8

  • R2 units to gain a "default customisation".

I dissagree here. Randomly changing colours on My 'Rainbow' R2 are cool !

  • Include all of the combat models that have already been created by the arts department. Even if they remain as level 10 pets,

Nah, we need them as higher level droids with a cert system. Lev 10 droidika ?, nah.

Not really a ton of time, no.

I suppose we might be able to get a way to have more than one 'display' model called. I'll check on that but don't hold your breath on this one.

I think we could 'sell' this. Clients often want to see the droids that we can sell. Being able to have some of each to call and show (but only display version?) would be a good way to do this. I'll have to check on it (read: no promises).

  • Ability to have a droid called at the same time as a pet - This was "supposed" to have been added in Publish 7 but I am still unable to have a mount and a droid called at the same time. Maybe it will go in with Publish 8, but I am very doubtfull.

I think this has been verified enough to be called a "bug". It's already been submitted as such, so we may see a fix for calling both a CL10 creature and CL10 droid soon (but no ETA).

  • Chasis for the following droids: WED Treadwell, Advanced R5, Advanced DZ-70, Advanced MSE Mouse - Possibility of being added in Publish 8, but doubtfull.

We are getting the 'display model' type feature, such that we can make furniture/display versions of ALL droids. Coming in Publish 8...and that's not a possibility. It's a done deal.

I've already put this one on the list. It's more of a feature request than a "bug" but I have it on the short list. It might not make it for a bit...but they know we want this (and should be able to understand the reasons why we need, in comparison to what other professions get for this info./stat windows).

  • Ability to colour a droid during construction and have the colour remain when the droid is tamed - This was in during beta when we didn't have to use deeds and it was VERY handy. Now that droids retain colours, I would like to see this come back in.

Check out my post on this. Basically...this was removed on the way to making 'display' models happen.
I believe, down the line, we won't color the 'chassis'. Any custom coloring to build a display model will happen after the product is built. We WILL get this capability back so that we can build custom colored droids for peoples' houses again.

  • Increased amount on droid customisation - 20 calls is not enough considering you have to store/call everytime you shuttle. For a DE traveling around selling droids I find I have to re-paint my R2 praticaly every day. This should be increased to ATLEAST 100 calls.

Instead of this, I think we're going to see that all players will be able to paint their own droids using the kit. But, of course, only DEs can make them. I'd have to suspect that the number of colors available will be dependent on the level of the DE that makes the paint kit. So...the number of calls will matter less. If you need to repaint your droid, you won't have to find a DE...you'll just pull a paint kit you bought and do it yourself. If you don't want to paint it....no need to use the kit.

This situation I describe above should resolve this. Two birds, one stone.

  • Ability to name "talking" droids

Yea...I'd like to see this too. I know it would make Audio happy too.

  • Ability to use numbers in the droid name

I'll bring this up. Perhaps we can make sure that any of the 'famous' / EU number combinations are disallowed but all others are okay. I am pretty sure they don't want 1000s of "R2-D2" droids running about.

  • Multiple crafting stations now work in the same droid, but having multiple droids within 10m with multiple crafting stations causes them to stop functioning.

Do what you can to verify this. I thought we got this nailed down. If you can definitely reproduce this, I need to let them know so we can get it in the bug-fix queue.

Hhhrmmm...I'll see what I can do, but don't hold your breath on this one.

Why 'display model' Only ??? It the LEAST they could do for DEs to have two droids out. All this Hybrid DE talk. Having Two droids out isnt too much to put on Novice DE If there is agument about that ('wonders' Never Cease!) Then At Leat at Master DE or whatever. Two Lev 10 combat droids, for DEs, are not going to theaten Anyone. If we ever get higher level droids, Then we could impliment a total max level restriction like CHs.

  • Ability for DE's to have more than 5 droids stored depending on their DE skill - I realise this brings up the issue of extra droids = extra storage space = more stress on the database, but we all want DE to have some droid abilities that non-DE do not. Again Why, display models only ? only problen is the storage max. Which they can fix as i described above

Like as has been said alot, 20 calls is not enough. I would make it go on vehicles when they get to like 25% condition. on droids maby 50% vitality or somthing.

(multi droids /w crafting stations bug)

Do what you can to verify this. I thought we got this nailed down. If you can definitely reproduce this, I need to let them know so we can get it in the bug-fix queue.

If this is intermittent, Could it be when two craft stations are both about the same distance from one player ?

And I would like to add. Drop In Batteries ! Either into item storage units. Or into a power pool like a havester has.

we _really_ should be able to have more droids in our pad than non-de's. People are always amazed when they find out i have the same # as them. It really bites. I havent been able to play with the new combat droids because I cant spare a droid slot.

Thanks for the reply, TK, but here's a few extra snippets in answer to some of what you said to try and "strengthen the course" or something

"Do what you can to verify this. I thought we got this nailed down. If you can definitely reproduce this, I need to let them know so we can get it in the bug-fix queue."

Ok, to reproduce the crafting station bug:

Get two R2 units. In each R2 unit place a crafting station of different types .. say one food and one general. Have both droids called and within 10m of each other (obviously with two different owners). Now try and use the general crafting station.

I get this ALL the time when someone has a droid called around mine .. I have to ask them to store it so I can complete my order.

What was fixed is multiple crafting stations in ONE droid, not multiple crafting stations in MULTIPLE droids.

"I suppose we might be able to get a way to have more than one 'display' model called. I'll check on that but don't hold your breath on this one."

Thats all I want to do! Except for the times when, as a DE, you *REALLY* need to have your powerdroid called to power your own droid ... its VERY gay that "Droid Engineers" have rely on someone else with a powerbot to charge their own droids.

"Instead of this, I think we're going to see that all players will be able to paint their own droids using the kit. But, of course, only DEs can make them. I'd have to suspect that the number of colors available will be dependent on the level of the DE that makes the paint kit"

This won't resolve the problem, it only simplyfies it. Currently, anyone can paint their own vehicle so long as they have their own paint kit. But look around on your server .. how many vehicles do you see customised? In the first week of publish 6 there were tons. Now I can go days without seing a single customised vehicle .. hell I don't even bother customising my own. Why? Because I shuttle-hop so many times during the course of a day, as do most players, that 20 calls only lasts a day. It becomes too expensive for someone to constantly buy boxes of custom tools and too expensive on resources for those that can make them to constantly do so, just to keep their ride painted.

The same can be said for droids. It will be fun for a week, then people will get fed up again with having to constantly waste money time and effort in keeping their droid the same colour.

In short, allowing anyone to paint their droid is NOT the answer and DOESN'T solve the problem. The only way to solve this is to DRASTICALY increase the amount of calls. Maybe even start giving the droid some wounds when its called, whatever .. just allow us to go through several days (or weeks) worth of calls without having to repaint. You would not believe the amount of control units I go through weekly on custom tools.

"I'll bring this up. Perhaps we can make sure that any of the 'famous' / EU number combinations are disallowed but all others are okay. I am pretty sure they don't want 1000s of "R2-D2" droids running about."

The letter and number combination in a droid isn't actually unique to one droid ... its just one of those "Star Wars hicups" people tend to ignore. The firstcombination has become the identifier to the model of the unit i.e.(R2) being an2nd series Astromechand the second combination is the batch number i.e. "D2". This means that the "D2" part in "R2-D2" really means that this droid was made in a certain factory within a certain batch.. which means there are quite possibly many R2-D2's running around the galaxy. Ofcourse, there is no real "SW" evidence to back this up OR deny it since there so many source books that contradict what the droid name means, but this seems to be the most pheasable of the versions since its impossible for a production line droid made for an entire galaxy worth of customers to only have a 2-digit variant in the name. In short, having 200 R2-D2's running around SWG isn't a continuity issue.

Personaly, I think there should be two levels to naming droids. These levels should be:

When a droid is tamed a name is randomly generated. The name matches the ID of the droid. I.E. a R2 unit will have a name of R2-XX and so on. Players have the option of re-naming their droid, but in doing so lose the default random name it was given ... new names follow the current filters, so by naming your droid you lose the option of it having a "droidy name" with numbers. Since droids are already randomly spawned with random droid numbers that fit the right type this, surely, would not require an awful lot of coding .. just splicing the taming of a droid through the same filter randomly generated NPC droids have. I think everyone would be happier with this solution ... it would also remove the "needing to name talky droids" for now since they'd randomly generate proper names and not "an Protocol droid" which is a real annoyance.

In fact, the "naming the droid" idea could be even better..

1) When the droid is tame it gains a chasis-specific random ID (i.e. R2-D2). This ID appearsas the droid's name.

2) When the owner re-names the droid, the name goes through the same name filter for continuity sakes, so no droids called "Luke-Skywalker". However, the ID the droid originaly gained now appears beside the name in brackets. I.E. Whistler (R2-D2)

This gives usseveral things:

1) Allows droids to finaly have proper "droidy" names.
2) Allows the owner to customise the droid's name while retaining its original ID
3) Keeps the creation of the droid more realistic in the "star wars" sense as all droids SHOULD be given their ID's upon creation. Whatever name your droid has, it still has its own ID
