Thread: Possibility for a new Profession

I didn't know where to put this, so I just put it where I feel most at home.

I had an idea for a new profession.

Reverse Engineer

This profession would have a big role in many things. It would have the ability to tear apart crafted items & either end with the resources or end with a 10-use (or however many you feel would be ok) schematic. This would be good for 2 things:

1. Getting resources.

2. Getting competetive with fellow crafters.

#1 is fairly simple. Let me explain #2.

If I walk into one of my servers' very good armorsmiths, I can buy a Composite chest plate and take it back to my workshop. There I begin to slowly take the chest plate apart. I find there are certain items used in this piece of armor. Next, I find which materials are used. Now, I have an option to recover the resources, or produce a schematic with all the base materials from my inventory and crated items from my inventory (not having the serial # from which the chest plate was originally created). This would cause a few things. Once I found what I needed, I need to find an artisan or crafter to build the necessary components. Hopefully this armorsmith is not one who I yanked a piece of material from in the past and is now my enemy. Or perhaps I had a friend get the item for me as to keep myself hidden.

I must use the same base resources which were found in the product, or I will not succeed in my copying of someone else's product. However, if I have materials which are better, and as with all Reverse Engineers, I can build it better than created to begin with. This would require some stats of material to be the same and all or others better than each stat on the material originally used. So, yes, when tearing down an item, it tells you the resource used and the stats of it as well.

Now, you might thinkthat it would be stupid to go to an armorsmith and give him/her a bunch of material to make you the components in a crate. BUT, think outside the box. You only have to have the armorsmith make ONE item. Then when you get that, you can reverse engineer it and create a schematic of your own.

Overall, this would be good to promote group play in the game. I can not get a schematic if someone isn't willing to build me one piece. So, I need to have a friend who would be willing to do that.

This would also promote the GCW. Imagine getting ahold of the high quality items which your enemy, whether it be an imperial or rebel, and creating a competetive market by creating a same or better stat item.

Of course you would have a small chance of not being able to reverse engineer it, and going up the skill ladder, you would have abilities to Reverse Engineer higher type items. For example, you could have Novice with ability to Reverse Engineer standard weapons and artisan items. Then you would have Weapons, Armor, Medical Items, etc...

I wouldn't include every item the different skills can build, because that would take from their profession, but have some of the small and some of the big ones. Or, to make it even better, have it random when you take up the Reverse Engineer skill so that none of the Reverse Engineers never always have the ability to RE the same items as each other.

Anyhow, what do you think. I apologize if this was a bit sketchy. I had the original idea and from there, I just kind of let it all flow out as I typed this.
