Maybe I'm slow on the up-take (don't answer that), but I just discovered on Test Center that you can still (again) customize Advanced Chassis' colors before crafting! Droid decorations are back in business for us!

I was so bummed when this went away in Patch 7. (or was it 6... seems sooo long ago)

yep, you can also customize and display deeds now as well (they now look like the actual droid, so you can get treadwell/R5/MSE/DZ70/power droiddisplay models)

I saw what I think was a Black (or maybe dark blue) Protocol on TC. Very cool and shiny... and it had RED eyes!

About the deeds... I know we'll be able to customize and drop em for display, but I seem to remember some bug with "pets" before as well as regular Droid Deeds, where anyone could target them and "tame" them if they were on the floor.

This happened to me with some deeds very early on in the game, but fortunately the "tamer" swore he didn't realise what he was doing, and gave them back to me..although now un-re-deed-able (?)

Anyways... I sure hope that bug is fixed now. It must be by now.... right?

And if they can do this for us...what about making Architect deeds look like tiny buildings. I know a Master Architect who would love to build a "table-top" city in his shop. heh.

They should be able to. You just make an advanced droid and use the chassis in the slot. They are changing a few characteristics about deeds, but not schematics.

What I want to know about coloring deeds is

A) Do the droids that pop out when you tame the deed have the colors set in manufacturing or do they revert to the default colors.

B) If they do use the new color does it deteriorate over time like the droid customization tool.

C) If the coloring doesn't deteriorate over time and I use a droid customization tool when it wears off does the droid revert to the manufactered color or does it revert to some other preset color?

From the droids I've tested, they do 'tame' with the colors intact. This was borked for Protocols a few days back but I had them take a look at it any they got it fixed. I also asked them (several times) to make sure that R-series droids also stop behaving strangely on this point. The R2s and R3s that I've been making for people on TC do see to ready with the correct colors in place.

Of course...since droid paint kits are usable by anyone now, that's less of an issue than it was in the past.

B) If they do use the new color does it deteriorate over time like the droid customization tool.

I'll check this tonight by power-calling/storing the droid to force it down. If any TC folks have tried this already, let me know what you found (especially on Protocols).

C) If the coloring doesn't deteriorate over time and I use a droid customization tool when it wears off does the droid revert to the manufactered color or does it revert to some other preset color?

Not sure yet. I should be able to check on this as part of looking at the issue above (which I'll look at as soon as TC gets back up).

The fact that it is borked sometimes when you tame certain droids is ok. It still shows that when they get it right coloring a droid at manufacture will allow the droid to be colored when it is called. I can't count the number of times people special order droids and finish off with 'and make it red with white trim' forcing me to tell them that I could paint it for them once it is active, but I can't color it before that.

The other questions are just because it seems like there should be some advantage to picking a color in manufacturing over customizing the droid later on.

I made a green Protocol with purple eyes tonight.

It's pretty cool to finally have color options on these.

Nice, can't wait to make some cutsom protocol droids.

I hope the old chassis can be used in the new schematics, gotta use up the old ones.

My experience on TC is that a crafted-customized droid keeps its colors when "readied". The original color seems to only last for 20 calls, whereas using a customize tool on adroid gives you colors that last for 50 calls.

These observations are from what the datapad examining window says about the droid. 20 calls for original color, and 50 for custom tool colors. Hope that makes sense.

Interesting..but not what the public wants.

TK, can you get them to swallow whatever the idea was to make customization fade, and just make Droid colours permanent unless later customized? Even that should then be permanent also.

I have never ever coloured a droid more than once for a customer..once they know it fades in 20 calls (or is it 50 now) they just dont bother

As to this mythical market where people will be waiting outside my door to buy customization kits..its fantasy.

Please ask them to face reality and make colours permanent once and for all...it does nobody any good as it is.

Thankyou

One DE's fantasy is another's reality...

Not only do I color my customers droids at time of purchase (for free), but they REGULARLY come to me (note... they COME to ME not the other way around) and pay me to have them re-colored to their favorite looks. Not all of them, mind you, but the ones that do want it, keep coming back.

It's those same folks who will be buying Droid Customize Tools from me by the crate, I'm sure, once they can use them themselves.

Does it bother me to have to re-color my own droids and speeders?... yeah it does. But will I go out in public with a garish looking astromech?... Are you kidding! I'm a DE afterall! I gotta set an example.
