So this might have been obvious to some of you, but it only dawned on me tonight...
Should you suffer from item decay (from cloning), your crafting tools are affected, and will lose a percentage of their condition. While there are no indicators to show it, I believe it IS affecting the rating of these tools.
I was carrying four 14.94-rating WDG tools with me when I went up to the Corellian Corvette the other day. Had to clone like5 times. When I got back and was making droids, I was getting really frustrated because I was getting really crappy experimentation on combat modules and repair kits. I thought it was just a run of bad luck, or a bug, but it was ridiculous.
It occured to me tonight that my tools probably decayed quite a bit while I was on the Corvette. I checked, and they still said they were rated at 14.94, but they sure weren't acting like it.
I made a new 14.94 WDG (took me 5 tries to get it there, that's how bad it was) and with that one made 3 more, so I have four brand-new 14.94 rated tools.
And now, I'm back to normal experimentation results. The difference is like night and day.
So, if you've had to clone a few times, make yourself some new tools.

Yes, this is a good idea.
Another problem with tool decay is that once it gets to "0" the tool will cease to work. Ive had a lot of people ask why they cant craft and the first thing I do is make them a new tool...poof works just like that.
What I have been doing for the last few months is only craft in my crafting shops and leave the tools in there (plus I dont have to carry around 160 different resources for WS and *formally* DE). For emergencies, I carry one tool and a few popular resources in a droid.

Wow, I've never actually thought of that before

Thanks for making the thread. Now that I know about it, I kinda feel silly for not thinking of that before
