Thread: Droid Customization and Fading: What is the purpose?
I have never read a specific reason as to why droid coloring needs to "fade" after a certain number of calls, so I thought I would throw out this question here:
Why does droid coloring have to "fade"?
I completely understand the need in certain aspects of the game to have decay from usage, and similar concepts such as credit sinks. But, what reason could there possibly be for having the color of a droid decay? What possible game-breaking exploit lurks beneath the casing of that droid customization toolkit?
The color of clothing, armor, other items, structures, and other "pets" never fades, so why should it on droids? I say, if someone wants a red droid, give them a red droid!
I pose this issue now for two reasons:
- In my opinion, this is the single biggest worry/concern droid customers have. They don't understand why their droid's color has to fade, and all those obscure "customization" messages only scare them into thinking something is wrong with their droid(s).
- Since it looks like vehicles will have the same coloring system, it would be nice to know why SOE continues to pursue this system.
lol..... I had a customer the other day that saw the Customization Fading message and thought all the Modules in his shinny new R-3 had blown up because he made a custom order.
But really, I agree. Most of my customers a very good idea of what colors they want on their droid. And the Fading thing is just retarded. I mean hell, my clothes fade faster than my car.
"Your order's customization has completely faded away. You took too long to grab this off the vendor so now you're left with an MSE droid and a level 3 medical module."
One hope to fixing this intentional bug lies in vehicles. When players realize that their nice swoop bike paint job last for only 20 calls, we'll have a lot more people frustrated by this goofy system.

One solution that I think is reasonable is to have the customization last much much longer, say for 1000 calls. This also seems more realistic in terms of paint wear and tear.
