my first first post
you can make a starter droid after you get 1/0/0/1 in DE by putting a level 1 data in a R5 droid. That would be the best way to start off, or you can wait till you get to 2/0/0/1 and put a level 2 data in. but as far as i know for the higher levels you can stack modules to get higher level data modules, check the Droid Engineering 101 - With JtL goodnessstickied at top of the forum for more info on stacking. I currently am a DE 1/1/0/4 and i have made over 300k since JTL came out.

Actually, you can make droids for starships as just a novice DE, IIRC. You get v1 Flight computer and data storage 1 at Novice. At 0001 you can make R5 droids.
You MUST match the level of the FC or data module to the cert level of the pilot. A novice pilot can only use a v1 FC or astromech with a DS 1 module.
