Thread: Considering The Profession

Hey all,

I am considering becoming a DE. My heart was set pre-release on being a droid engie and then I heard so many bad things. I ended up not being a crafter instead. Since then I got a second account for the girlfriend and I to share and on it I am doing a crafter. I was going to be a weaponsmith but every time I login I see at least one new master and I have five friends and PA mates that are going WS.

So my question is. Is there money in Droid Engingeering? Do you enjoy your profession (this one is key - I dont mind harvy runs, etc, etc)? Any random thoughts?

Major dilema going on here and im sorta lost and heart broken in SWG crafting. Looking for a crafting home in all honesty...

Thanks for any thoughts in advance guys...

I think personally I am having a good time being a Droid Engineer. As for making money I must be in a bad location because I have other people competing against me in coronet. =) This results in very small sells of my droids. I even have gone as far to just specialize in Bounty Hunter droids only and still have not gotten many hits to my store. I have found a small niche business in droid furniture though.

Overall though you can't go into this profession thinking your going to be rich. I am lucky to even out at the end of the week. Most of my income is from Endor or Dat missions with my PA friends.

I am just waiting like everyone else to get our profession fixed and hopefully by the time I just about get sick of this profession SOE will finally do something. =)

I like being a DE. I think I like DE for the same reasons that CH like being who they are, except that their pets can kick mob booty and we can't. That's why there are so many of them and so few of us. That's another reason I like being a DE, so few of us out there. I don't feel like a cookie-cutter character template.

I think I might pick Squad Leader for my other profession.....

You are not going tomake any real cash until you can make REAL droids. Ones with MAX medical, MAX armor and craft stations. You are going to be scrapping until that time. I survived harvesting and selling a lot of the resources, but even resources don't sell for much over 2 credits anymore.

I have a questionabout TK asa profession. I am a master ranger/scout and will keep that, but want something a little more up close and personal when hunting than Rifleman, so I looked at Brawler to TK.

Is it better to take all the way to TK master or are there any branches that I don't need to take. I'm not into PvP and only am after being able to survive close encounters of the creature kind.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

If you are looking for up close and personal and want to survive then Teras Kasi Master is the way, we are the tanks (Allegedly )
Personally i would say go the whole way. I have been TKM since November 03 and still not even considering dropping it.

Also, post CU means we savea bundle of cash on armour

Not very high on damage alone. Good tank but not a great damage dealer. Although my ADK'ed/Puped/Sliced Knucklers do a fair amoutn in PVP, not much in PVE.

My temp is TKM/Doc/4240Medic/0030swords

TKM would givegood defense, but pretty pathetic offense unless you make the room for 0030 swords to go with it. Not to mention you'd probably want healing abilities if you went melee. A melee player without healing skills won't last long soloing and is doomed to be a group only character. Basicly if you want to stay master ranger, you'd probably be best staying with ranged weapons so you can kite and avoid getting hit.

I thought the NGE couldn't be any worse than the CU, but I was wrong.

My two cents in is that +Creature to hit works for ranged only, so You are losing that, although not huge, is a factor to be considered. But you will save a ton of money and COB is wonderful.
