Thread: New Droid Engineer (also a Doc)

I just became novice DE and after reading lots of depressing threads I had some questions.

What other professions do u have?

Do I need a droid crafting station or can i just grind and then make 1 myself?

Having not many skillpoints left, do I need to be master artisan or are there enough of them to sell me the stuff they make?

Are the new patches gonna make things better for the DE class?

Is a factory necessary? Will it save a lot of time? As a doc I didnt get a factory untill I mastered it because untill then the stuff I made wasnt top quality. Factories dont make exp I reckon, or only a litlle uxp perhaps so I dont wanna bother. But Im not sure if I will miss out on something good without a factory.

Will they make droids decay or die in the future? Because if they dont everyone will have a droid soon and there will be no business left. I had 3 droids before I became DE and it seems most people that need 1 have got 1. Some are even given away. Am I in the utterly economic failure profession that way? I mean Im not in it for the money but my fun would increase if I actually sold a droid every now and then.

Sorry for the long post.

Master Artisan is not a nessesity. But it does help out emensly. If you do not have Master Art, you deffinately need a factory. Its easier to get someone to make you a schematic with your resources than it is to have them run their own factory.

You don't need a Droid crafting station, you can just grind. But I behove you to test out what you can make at each level. We have many special delights that you can spend hours on end answering questions to customers about.

Droids do not decay, unless you call the Vitality of attack droids (it works just like normal pets) decay.

The proffesion is easy to gind, but to truly Master it takes many months.

Master Aritsan, some Pistoleer, and soon dropping MA for Armorsmith

Do I need a droid crafting station or can i just grind and then make 1 myself?

You can use a private/public weapon/general/droid crafting station until you can make your own.

Having not many skillpoints left, do I need to be master artisan or are there enough of them to sell me the stuff they make?

You can do it, but it will be a pain. Especially if you dont know the profession. It's probably easier to have MA/DE and drop MA then it would be to just have DE. Every droid uses MA parts. If you dont pick up MA (and even if you do) you will need to produce 1000s of EMM/GPS, and hundreds of Contrul Units, Micro Sensors. At 25 per crate, expect to set aside a house for storage.

Are the new patches gonna make things better for the DE class?

Unknown, but not likely. If anything, life will become much harder with experimentation properly implemented. None of the new droids look terribly interesting.

Factories are required. You must have 1. You will probably like more than one. Most DE's crate EVERYTHING they need. Otherwise building a droid can take 20 minutes. Also a few critical parts (like advanced droid brains) require crated parts. Most craft their droids from crates of the individual parts. Master Logistics Engineers factory run droids.

Combat droids do decay. Though pet stims fixes their vitality (or did, have never tried myself). One would imagine the new exploding droids will be instant decay. People buy droids. Just happens. New players, old players switching professions, people suddenly realizing they can get 50 storage, people wanting a change. Who knows why. So far most DE's have kept in business without a problem. We are after all, outnumbered 100:1.

You will not get filthy rich. But you will not go poor either.

Sorry for the long post.

Thx for the answers, that helps a lot. I alread am 4034 artisan and will make MA first and use a factory to make a lot of those components u mentioned. I have only a few lots to use because my major source of income is my 5 fusion reactors. But I will redeed my f/c factory and buy a 'droid factory'. After I made a load of those things I will have to drop MA but with a load of supplies I will be safe I reckon. I need a house as well but perhaps I can convince a guildie to let me use his/hers for storage. Thx again, this will help a lot. Eventho I am grinding it I might keep the profession as it has some unexplainable attraction to me.
