Thread: Logical (And viable) Droid suggestion

So I was thinking, and reading these forums and it got me thinking.

Noone wants to be a mechanized version of Creature Handlers. And the CH'ers don't want us to move onto their turf.

Understandable.

But at the moment droids are nothing more than a Newbie friend. This taken into consideration the "Droid trade" isn't an ongoing one. A person buys a droid and then has it repaired. So at one point the market will start to go downhill. (It will most likely never stop since new players are coming and so on.)

Therefore the Droid Engineer profession isn't a very desirable one.

The new modules and such are a good start, but let's face the music; The combat droids are worthless compared to a decent pet.

At the same time the droid engineers are gaining no actual advantage over anyone else with the new changes. ACH'er has the ability to command higher pets than anyone else, a DE will be stuck with the same droid everyone else can command. And that's including a CH'er.

That being said what I would like to see is something along the lines of a proper combat droid.

For instance:

Let's take a Droideka, since everyone is all fuzzy about them.

The chassis is made out of a certain amount of resources. Just like normal Advanced Droids.

It comes with 15 sockets a basic 200 HAM and a damage of 10-20. 20% resistances (or something like it)

Each socket can have one of the following modules:

Armor Module:

This Module adds 500 to HAM

Damage Module:

This Module adds 25 to min and max damage.

Shield Module:

This Module adds a shield like a personal shield generator, adding extra protection of a certain kind. For instance 10% resistance.

Damage type module:

This changes the damage type.

You then customize you droid with modules as you see fit.

If you were to Focus on damage, you'd have a droid that did 385-395

If it was armor it'd have 7700 HAM

But these are the extremes.

A "normal" variant would be something like:

6 damage modules: 160-170

5armor modules: 2800 HAM

3 Shield Modules: 50 % kinetic resitance

1 Damage type module: Change to Kinetic

To me this doesn't sound all too overpowered. It might even be underpowered.

Logic says that a Droid equipped with laser cannons can outdamage a tigersized wolfpig thing. But they can't at the moment.

It just seems weird to me.

What does everyone else think?
