Can anyone say yet what droids can be used for in the NGE? Are they useful in combat?
The reason I ask is because I am a Master DE and a Master SW. In this new game I'm being thrust into, I can't be both and will be forced to abandon one of the professions I worked so hard to master.I like making droids and have been a DE since launch, but I won't stay if our metal companions are neutered beyond usefulness. I don't care a fart in the wind about credits or what kind of business we might have, I just want to know if droids are going to be worth making at all in NGE.
Anyone have any info about that?

I assume you have used all of your skill points? If so, you should be able to take Trader:Engineering which covers both Shipwright and Droid Engineer.

Engineering does not cover SW, its DE and WS. That got changed at some point.

That may be a bug. the description says DE/SW but the skill tree is DE/WS

So.....
What about droids? Can they fight things tougher than kreetles? Are they useful to entertainers, other crafters or combat profs? Can we use them to clear lairs for harvesters? Mere home decorations?
Can't get on myself to test, but hoping to find out from the rest of our community if we still have a place in the universe.

Nobodies been able to make droids yet since the skill tree is bugged and requires merchant xp (which no longer exists), so right now we honestly don't know. A couple things we can make good guesses about though:
Creature harvestor droids most likely no longer function since creature resources are considered loot (though I believe the modules are still there, and it would be interesting to see what happens when you tell one to harvest).
BH's are still getting droid related skills, so we can assume those will be used
Crafters/entertainers no longer draw aggro, so they will likely not need combat droids
entertainer droids likely haven't changed
crafting droids likely haven't changed

Unfortunately my trader test character was on the testcenter they scrapped so they could update it with Corbantis, I had a character there but bleh .. a level 1 not touched character.

I tested a combat droid on TC-Ahazi (sp?) today. It was level 30, and one-shotting the low-level (level 8) mobs outside of Mos Eisley without a problem. I, unfortunately, was not high enough level to take it against anything higher, as my character on that server was a newbie character I made pre-CU to try Carbines and never played past the first couple of skill boxes, and one shot from these level-8s were already enough to incap me. Only problem was typing the 'a' command while hovering over a target. My best suggestion is to use a macro to say 'a', and bind it to a key you can easily hit while pointing at the target.

Let's see:
- Droids with data storagemodules (astromechs)
- Droids with item storage modules (pocket mouses)
- Droids with Combat... Can be fun, but not necessarily usefull:
* Grouped with PC <CL30: get the CL of the player... Which is usefull when mobs CL < PC CL
* Ungrouped with PC <CL30: can keep PC safe, up to CL31... But PC canot get loot or anything...
* Grouped with PC >CL30: can work alongside, tho damage done to mob is nog much (pre-ng), but it can help to distract a group-mob.
* Ungrouped with PC >CL30: see ungrouped with PC <CL30
- BH droids Arakyd/Seekers: with everyone getting 2nd charslot, likely lot of them might become a DE)
- Crafter droids
- Medical: uncertain, might become obsolete (no more medic skills I think?)
- Harvesting: scout and alike gone. Useless
- Maintenance: bugged, automatic via bank, useless.
- Repair/Restore: not much used
In short... even less usefull droids AFTER NGE then post-cu
PS: Not tested anything, but just THEORIZING from reading about the changes.

I'm hoping this type droid comes back with a vengeance! The schematic is still there post-NGE, so it should function. Now that all scout/ranger bonuses are gone, these may make their comeback. Even if creature resources use a loot command to get, using a harvest droid should boost your loot amount no matter who you are. *crosses fingers*

Med mods will be hit hard if only medics can heal. If everyone using stims gets a bonus, we may see the sales stay steady.
If folks still love using a droid in combat and feel it is more 'star warsy', Repair kits should pick up in sales since not many will be medics and be able to 'bacta shot' their droid.

Well seeing as they messed about with pets .. might be worth checking things .. you know what happened last time they *fixed* pets.
