To whom it may concern,
I, like many others, became a DE specifically for my love of robots. Aliens are neat, spaceships are cool, but what really got me into Star Wars was the /DROIDS/. When I first got this game, I heard the DE class was broken. Then, 2 months ago I hear they will be fixed. So I set myself to grinding, and have been slowly working my way to mastery.

The history out of the way, I have the following comments/suggestions.

1. The droid frame progression and usage is slightly annoying. The fact that an R3 makes a better combat droid than a Probot is a little confusing. The fact that a binary load lifter (which sounds like something that should be able to /carry/ things) can only have one, basic storage module. The fact that repair droids really don't do much.

2. Combat droids. Ah, yes, combat droids. I have a problem with this, as many people do. For one? We need ACTUAL combat droids. Not just R3s that can peck and gnaw at enemies. The models for Droideka and the various other combat droids from Episodes 1 and 2 are already done, as is seen in the Geo cave and the new Corellian Corvette adventures. Why not stick them in DE? Leave the R3 for more important tool-style work. At the very least, give us quests to getthe schematics for these droids. A CH can tame almost any creature, why cant we have almost every droid?

3. Droid Handler. What the heck? Why can't Droid Engineers more resemble the Creature Handlers? We don't have Creature Tamers and Creature Handlers, Simply add a level-based system to the droids, so they increase in usage difficulty until only DEs can use them? Sure, Joe-Shmoe with now levels in DE can get a crafting droid, or a harvester, but that big, bad Droideka? Nuh uh. Or that advanced R3 with multiple crafting stations and medical knowledge? Nope.

4. Honestly, I applaud the devs for the latest modules coming out. They will help, but the one thing that will FIX the class, is making DEs themselves a class that not only is merchantable, but internally functionable. I want to quest with my droids, not watch them blow up when I engage that Kaadu.

Yes, I'm sure many of these topics have been discussed to death, I just needed to voice them myself.

Thank you for your time,
MoP

Okay, so, these characters have the ability to build starships to travel the stars, bio-engineer animals by playing God with their DNA and even -- bring people back to life (I know, just kidding), yet..... They still haven't figured out how to make roads?

NO DOUBT. I would go on a quest for the scimatics. (and heck if the advanced Combat droids were made by the Genosian's...have it in the middle of thier base or something.)

And I also have to agree there have been positives to the new updates, but being a DE is a joke in some cases, we are only really needed by BH's and a few crafter's that know what droids do. I find 1/2 my time educating people on what droids do and how to use them. once crafters find out they love it, but when i get questions on combat droids i get laughed at when i talk about the hams and armor on the droids. My girlfriend is a novice CH and she has a Baby Rouge Bageriset that is almost as tough as my toughest droid.

A BABY!

(sorry about the rant, just don't get it)

I know the worries of the Dev's beacuse Im sure we've all heard the stories of combat droids rolling around taking out anything that moves basically. but i think we need a middle road....

Robot.

And yes, the new HAMs and all are great. But it still boils down to noone wants a rolling garbage can that can shoot. Plain and simple.

I mean for the love of God, they're ASTROMECH DROIDS.

If you understand the history of robots and their relationship to droids, you'd realize that having a fondness for both are one in the same.
