You would think they'd realized before publishing the patch that it is not the Probot, but the Probe Droid!

How can they not know their own droids? Please tell me I'm wrong!

Arakyd Probe Droid

Xaldain, thank you. Pardon me for leaving Arakyd out, couldnt remember how it was spelled. . My point is, they dont know the diffference between Probots and Arakyd Probe Droids.

Agreed. A little disheartening, but I'm jaded, so no biggie....

This is just another illustration of how clueless they are...

Actually the Probot from TESB is an Arakyd Probe Droid. It's one and the same thing, why on earth they made a distinction in this game is beyond me.

Well, in the movie it's one and the same thing. The thing we make and call arakyd is the datapad that calls the probot from orbit.

They look exactly the same. (Unless I have been majorly misinformed here )

I guess they couldn't decide on a combat droid and gave us a recon droid for a combat droid.

"Probot" is the generic term for probe droids in general. From what I gather anyway. In Empire they referred to the probot as an Imperial Probe Droid. It turns out that Arakyd Industries was the manufacturer.

According to Starwars.com:

Specially designed for deep space exploration, and reconnaissance, probe droids are employed in science and military applications. They gather data and transmit it to their masters over vast distances. Tenacious hunters and searchers, probe droids (or probots)have a variety of sensors, and the ones employed by the Empireare armed with powerful blasters and, in some models, shields.

The Arakyd Probe in the game I've never actually seen ....

A bounty hunter told me they looked the same.

Arakyd is a corporation which makes, basically, nasty droids that do nasty things, such as combat and espionage. During this time period they have very close Imperial ties, but they've got no problems getting buddy-buddy with the New Republic later on.

The droid design in SWG seems to depend heavily on "The Essential Guide to Droids," which lists the Probot and probe droids in pretty much the same form we see them in-game, and the name "Probot" does indeed refer to that specific model of hyperspace-delivered interstellar probe droid, rather than designating probe droids in general.

As far as a statement about "BH probots," I don't think there's any reason to start jumping on people. It's an easy thinko (like a typo, but it happens in the brain rather than the fingers) to make. I've caught myself several times typing one when I meant to type the other. You know what they meant. Let it go.

As a DE (and former BH), I can confirm that the Arakyd Probe Droids are Probots.

The technical difference is that the Arakyd's search for marks and the Probots fight....but regardless of whether you call an Arakyd from orbit or call a Probot from the datapad, when they're hovering there in front of you, they look exactly the same. They're technically different, but visually, they're identical. Only the DE's would really be expected to know there's a difference because we craft one that fights and another that's a little gray datapad. 8)

If you go strictly by the movies, those aren't for fighting, anyway....they're probe droids sent to look for stuff (like the Rebel base on Hoth).
