Thread: Pets and data modules, fellow DEs please advice
Early today I sold a data droid to a CH. Moments later I received an e-mail saying that his favorite pet was trapped in the droid.Just to check, I put a baby pig like creature in my personal data droid and try to retrieve it. I got a message saying"The pet doesn't know the transfer command", and the pig stayed in the droid. Goes without saying that that doesn't happen moving droids. Before I give the deed ofmy house to this chapin compensation, can you tell me if any one of you has observed this problem? Is this the way data modules are supposed to work? I can not make it out thatfrom the update notes. Is this a new glorious bug that will take a couple months to fix? Fellow DEs advice please.

I wouldn't give him squat. It was aknown exploit, it was called an exploit, and there was fair warning that it'd be "fixed" soon. I think I was warning people a week ago when they asked me about data droids. And, this was in the patch notes. And, well, caveat emptor and all that stuff.
I refused to sell any for the last week or so - and now I'm glad I didn't, as I think I may be the only DE on my server who chose to forgoe easy money. Of course, I'm also the only DE on my server who isn't getting 100 bitchy emails because people lost all their pets ![]()
Well it was without warning. I never saw a message in-game. Did you? And what I still don't understand is why it would be considered an exploit. It is a "data, data" type in the pad. The exploit is allowing mutliple full droids to be stored inside a single. SOE can't expect everyone to read the forums or play in TC either.
I'm a DE on Temest not a CH. This is a complete nerf to the CH profession. They can't sell pets on the bazaar nor in vendors and now they can't even keep a stock on hand.
If pets aren't "data" then get them out of the datapad!
It was an exploit because it was a very inexpensive workaround to the limit on the number of pets storable in a datapad. What would be the point of having CH skills give a boost to max pet storage with this thing? CH's and Non-CH's would have the same theoretical maximum number of stored pets. For something like 10k credits (the most I heard of one going for) you can basically nullify that whole aspect of things. There are also "farming" methods that could have been used (and, I know, were used).
That would be like if medical droids added to a players medical *use* stat - why would anyone except for wanna be doctors or combat medics bother getting even novice medic if they could have a droid that would give them that skill line?
There was a mention in a previous patch note (from the log in - so everyone had to see it) about a bug with pets being storable in droid datapads, and how this was fixed (it wasn't, of course
) but people should have seen the writing on the wall there, in my opinion.
But yeah, SOE is doing the "right" thing by letting people get their pets out. I hope they put a time limit on it, though - I'd hate to see some guy pulling out his 10,000th fully grown kamurrah for sale 6 months down the road since he stocked up now...

Yes, it was in the patch notes, which appear on the launchpad before you enter the game. There were over a dozen things changed with CH, and it's his fault for not looking.
You don't owe this person anything. They were exploiting. The CH tree specificly grants you a certain amount of stored pets based on your skill. What in the world would be the point of this skill gain if you could store virtually unlimited pets in a droid?
The exploiter got caught with his pants down. Let him get over it.

If you advertised the droid as a pet storage device (seen alot of DE's doing this because it boosts sales) then you do have an element of the blame (even if neither of you read the patch notes) although I certainly wouldnt give someone a house over it, just instructions on how to open a support ticket and maybe a refund on the droid (depending on howmuch it was)
If he justpurchased a data droid from you withoutmentioning what he was going to do with it - tough luck for him
I have to admit though, with so much broken or not working as it shoudl with droids I tend to grill my customers on what they are going to do with their droid (also partly to see if they are asking for the right thing - I had one guy buy a Probe droid from my vendor because he thought it was a Probot, despite the description saying it was BH only) to avoid any post-sales problems (and it kind of makes up for the grillings I get over how to actually use the thing once they bought it). Problem with that is I tend to lose quite a few sales because of the bugs - while I could have made the money I'm happier not having to put up with the grief and potential reputation loss.
