I hate these things with a passion. Everytime I need some, I find that I have run out, or I start up a run on the factory only to find the serial numbers don't match.
As a very small boon to Droid Engineers, I think the developers should take all matching serial numbers off of our schematics for Mem's and GP's. Instead of matching serialization, make them 'similar'. Brains, motive systems, sensors, all those don't bug me with serialization, but the Mem's and GP's make me pull my Rodian Whiskers out.

When you create the schematic, put in a serial number YOURSELF!
For instance, I'm up to EGP7 E74D28 Electronic GP modules and EMM6 E72D32 Electronics Memory Modules now.
It took me quite a few runs without a naming convention before I got smart.
I do the same thing with all my subcomponents, like 'ADB5 Advanced Droid Brains'

Yeah one of my biggest gripes is the serial number thing in schematics. For instance, this week I created a bunch of droids that needed control units. I forgot about the serial number thing and made 1000 control units in lumps of 200. Well because of the serial number issue, I ended up throwing out about 15 control units because the serials did not match. Grrrrr. A factory-made part is a factory-made part...

Well, this is a nice way to keep them seperate, but the bigger gripe is the serialization. I took a look into my input hoppers and found I must havea dozencrates of these things with just 2 or 3 per crate with different serial numbers. Now I can either make a few single seeker droids, or maybe a couple personality chips with the left overs.It would be much easier and a very nice gimmeto the DE community if the Dev'sallow us to use non-serialized GP's and Mem's in our schematics.
I never tried any of the other crafting classes. Do any of the others have to use 1000's of a certain serialized component to make just about all of theiritems?

If I am remembering correctly the serial number is on the schematic. So any crates you make with that schematic will have the same S/N.
I always have all the electronic items that a MA can make in stock on my vendor.

serialization is required by the crafting system for obvious reasons. Every part can be experimented differently, so they added serialization to make sure the raw material has the same stats. granted it doesnt matter for us because our experimentation is meaningless, but its still the core system.
