I sometimes feel kinda low-down dirty and slimey, but gleeful too. You know the feeling when you see/read that a DE on your server went titts-up and he/she is "liquidating" their inventory. On one hand your like "Oh-man, another buddy down. Thats too bad for our profesion.", but then you realize you can save about one cobalt 60 half-life in factory and crafting time by buying all his/her crated componants.
I see this about 2-3 times a month. I think survival of the fittest (or is it the most stuborn?.....); Darwinism portrayed in SWG, but a part of me wishes I could have helped them out a little. You know, show them the ropes.
Oh, well. I guess one man's bust is another man's boom-droid.........

Yep, just had a good DE on Tarquinas go out of business, was sad to see him go but was happy to get the nearly full run of advanced brains and 150 or so level 6 item storage modules...

For me staying a DE and trying to be a good one is my way giving back to the SWG community, besides i have embarked on the big grind and have no stamina to change my orginal toon. I like being a crafter, you just load up your vendors when needed and check in ince a week or so.

Guess it depends on your idea of being a crafter. To me vendors have nothing to do with being a crafter, thats all merchant. Being a crafter is actually making the products and building a good reputation. I do know how you feel about giving back to the community though. I try to help out anyone that comes my way (usually with information, tend to gather a lot of that when you've been here for so long).

I got the e-mails about the other DE's going out of business. I was tempted to buy up parts, but I was already in a full production run of all the advanced and basic parts. Stocked vendors has really helped in my sales the last couple of weeks. That and rebuilding my rep as a MDE has been going great.

yea, only parts I usually go after are advanced brains (pain in the ass to make...) and level 6 storage modules.

As Jenden alluded to eariler I am closing up shop. I'll restock more stuff next time i log on.. i have all kinds of stuff from advanced R3/R2 frames to a few combat clusters rated at 55 creature harvest.. I'll load up more when I get the urge to log on.. the only reason I have hung on aslong as I have is the community on Tarquines. I've been here sence launch and its time to leave SWG for good.. Playing the wow stress beta really opened my eye to the sad underdeveloped state that is swg..
My vendor is south of Theed and on the planetary map (if not sold out already)

Each player has their own reason I suppose for leaving, but between Flava and Oggler Robotics recently going under, its seems like two of the biggie's have left Tarquinas. Now I'm sorry to see them go, but at the same time, I'm happy to have their buisness. If only they had forwarded me their customer list before they left
This might be tooboard specific, but it seemed like Oggler was primary Naboo based, I'm sure Jenden has the Tatoonine business lined up. And I labor under the (likely mistaken) delusion that I get the Coronet business, though there is another DE shop near me that seems pretty well stocked too. I'm half curious how many serious DE's the other various servers support? Now that the advertising exploit has been fixed, the real market is much clearer (thank you devs). Its become very apparent that the number of WS>>>>>DE's on any given planet.
As far as parts goes, I tend to only use the huge runs of a thousand or so components, just because I find managing different schematic runs is the biggest problem. There is nothing more frustrating then doing a factory run only to find out I accidently used 2 different runs of GP chips. Inventory management needs serious improvements.
So a toast to the fallen DE's, may their wiring stay dry and their factories keep humming.

wow, didn't hear about flava going under...
Anyway, yea, my business is pretty dispersed anymore, I hang around theed mostly but still have a large following from my tatooine days... since I don't sell any of it out of a vendor (aside from batteries, repair kits, and bombs) my clientel is pretty spaced out.
The servers can definately support more DE's, but not nearly as many as WS/AS (due to the decay issue).

More power to youon that, but yee godsthat buisness modelwould drive me nuts. I operate ona strictly in-stock basis. I do huge factories run of several hundred droids at once, then keep the vendors full. I do custom orders on request, but I generally don't need to as a customer can find pretty much any useful combination in stock at any time. My playtime is a bit erratic, so a big inventory is the best way (I find) to be responsive to the customer. Industrialization is the only way to go in my opinion.

That is always a good find. ADV R-3 frames are boxed gold too. Many times though, I will see crates of level 3 storage or armor modules that are not experrimented high enough to be used together for level 6 effectiveness. I think to myself "why did they make themshort of their full effectiveness?", but then I realize that probably has something to do with the fact that I'm standing in front of a DE who is going out of buisness.

I really cant express how much I like being a DE. That is; I'm not so sure I can express how much I like it. I guess its just a sum of small personal flukes that makes this fun. Its somewhat unconventional, its an underdog, its complicated, and always challenging. And i fit right in. Theres alot of new content coming in all the time, especially with JTL on the horizon. Its really easy to be tempted by it. And thats all perfectly understandable. But for me, theres satisfaction in staying true to the profession. We follow the market, and its whims which is always changing, trying to fit in is the game which is never the same twice.
