Thread: Tk, a request to the Devs about JTL

TK, as our voice to the devs, I would like to have you make a request to the Devs, I fully understand that nothing may come of it, but it can't hurt to try.

Please ask to have the NDA for Beta Testers concerning crafting lifted.

JTL is coming soon, a month to 2 months probably, which in gaming terms is right round the corner. I understand the intention behind a NDA, and overall I agree, yet in a resource and crafting system such as SWG, pre-knowledge of what is needed is certainly an edge.

For example, it has already been leaked that a lot of the resources needed for JTL will be "new," that they have not spawned yet. That is excellent and well done. Yet that is "some" and not all. Recently I had a run in with another DE who was bragging that he already knew what resources and chasis would be needed, and that he had already started collecting. Of course he could have been lying, but then again maybe not.

Currently Beta testers have inside knowledge, plus friends of Beta Testers (who don't follow the NDA,) have advance knowledge as well. This goes beyond resources and into what items may be needed. While the rest of us try and prepare for every chasis possibility, they are filling warehouses with exactly what they need.

The field should be level for all.

I agree and disagree.

I agree with the fact that Beta Testers should not have that much of an edge. We pay the same as they do, and most work just as hard or harder to keep up with current demand. I only have so many lots. I can only have so many factories going at the same time and continue to have harvs pulling up what I need. The different droid options being released would definitly be nice for preparation.

On the other hand, if every DE knows exactly what's coming, that runs the risk of a market glut on Astromech droids. Every little DE Master, including those that did the grind just to make astro's and really know little or nothing about being a MDE, will have a stock of these. Because of the lack of droid decay, and the complete availability of such droids, the value of them will plumet as price-wars ensue. That is bad for the economy. Bad for the economy means bad for us.

Perhaps a little "leak" of one or two possible chassis would be ok. People stock those anyways.

Yeah I can't see this happening.Thou I do agree that it would be a huge advantage to those who are testing to have such inside info. I hope some of theresources well be swapped out. Maybe some of the resources amounts will change.. just hope they understand how this could hurt every crafting class

I wouldnt be suprised to see them do a little switch-a-roo on resources as it goes Live. It really isnt fair that Beta players get such an advantage. But, from what I have read so far (I'm not in Beta), Steel is a big one. And I dont think there are any new Chassis, just a few new modules. I dont know the types of resources needed to craft the modules, but none of our modules are very resource-intensive. The other good thing is that NO ONE will be able to use ANY of the high-end Droid modules or ship parts for several days until they have grinded up their Pilot skills. So regardless, everyone should have enough time to drop a few harvs on the new resources (if any are used in mkaing the droid parts) to get th items made in time for the demand.

I hope you're right, however I doubt it. When JTL goes live those of us who have had accounts for longer than 6 months are going to get a multi-passenger ship (similar to Lando's Lady Luck from what I understand) right off the bat. If that's the case, it's possible that astromech droids will be usable from the get-go.

But we can hope.

from what I gather the droids are based off of skill, not ship. So for a couple days while people are still getting skills they won't be able to use the more advanced droid features anyway.

I was agreeing with you on that point, just in a round-about way plus a couple other issues I had.

I don't think people totally understand what I am saying.

Let's say that one of the new modules takes 'Mirth" Inert gas. Now this isn't something that ANYBODY normally stocks. If people have it around, they are probably using it for grind stuff, or just stocked it becsue of OQ or something.

So now a Beta Tester, or osmebody else with "inside" knowledge starts going around and buying all the Mirth Inert gas that is available. Nobody else knows it is needed, so they can't. That resource may not spawn again for a while.

Now when the SE goes live, what happens? A couple of people have that gasm and nobody else does. Possibly, the others can build lower level versions of those modules, yet by far, the people who will sell the msot are the people with the "inside" information.

This is wrong.

I have the bad feeling we can end up competing with the other crafting profs a lot more for our needed resources. Stuff that runs 100+cpu on most live servers as it is. This is something that probably 90%+ of the DE community couldn't handle. If that's the case, maybe we should make a DE raid on the main offices?

Again, from what I have heard, the new modules do not need any name-specific currently available resources. But again, its possible they will do a little switching when it goes Love. I think they use common currently available resources.

As someone whomanages an External Beta Program I can say NDA's are there for a reason. One of those is to avoid what you are asking for. That is for everyone to have all the info up front, or in some cases to keep from hurtting sales.

Let us pretend fora second, say that JTL requires that DE's have to have some kind of special Shipbuilder component that inturn requires a component from a Master Artisan. Or maybe only looted components like RIS. Or lets say that they release the info and every DE goes and gathers all the stuff up and then the Devsdecide at the last minute to change resource requirements. These are just a few things I can come up with off the top of my head, but thesereasons alone would cause people to fly off the handle and quit the game or refuse to buy JTL. Hince this is where the NDA comes into play. The NDA is there to help protect you, the NDA is your friend.

But hey whatever happend to the eliment of surprise?
