Well, on Thursday night, I picked up a second copy of SWG to create a second account.
My main account is a TK Master, Politician, and Ranger.
This new account is strictly going to be a crafter (i have never done any crafting professions before)
The new guy is already a Master Artisan, and is going to become a Master Droid Engineer, Master Tailor, and spend the rest of the points leftover on Merchant.
so here's my question:
Aside from reading the stickied threads (which I still need to do, but can't read them at work) what advice can you veteran Droid Engineers give a newbie who's just trying to make some good helpful droids. Any advice would be great, as far as what to grind, what stuff usually sells best, pricing, what resources to stock up on, ect. I'm sure alot of the factual information is covered in the stickied threads, but i thought maybe some opinions from the community might help me out as well.
thanks

Advice besides reading the stickies? Hmmm....
After you've read the DE 101 thread and the Centralized Droid Issues thread, read them again and even print a few of the sections out.
Seriously, about the only advice that wasn't included in the DE 101 thread was how to actually gain a customer base. To do this, you must first understand the profession. Once you understand many of the different complexity of the profession, and how different droid configurations can help others, then you will be able to put together your customer base.
For me, the hardest part about being a Droid Engineer is trying to put together different module combos, so that the droid has a higher potential of sale. Once you get to understand your target customer better, and know what you can offer them, you will be able to craft your own credits. This does not mean that you will 'get rich quick'. It does mean that you will have a steady income of credits to cover most of your expenses and have a little to set aside at the end of the day.

Thanks.
After work i'm read over those threads.
So far i've been making a decent bit of credits selling those Unprogrammed Droid Control Chips to my Imperial friends and guildies for their TIE Flight Computers. I've also made a few Foam Droids to give to guildie entertainers as gifts.
I also just got a Droidsmith Toolkit Schemeatic, and Since i'm also a Tailor, i'll be making that tonight too to help me out to make better stuff.
After looking at all the different crafting professions, I honestly think that droid engineer could possibly be the one i'd have the most fun doing. there's just so many different types of droids and different combinations, and there's at least something, droid-wise, that can help virtually every player in the game.
i really hope that through the levelling up process that feeling does not go away, because I really am looking forward to crafting droids.
i'm sure you guys will be hearing from me again when i start having questions about things.

Other than reading the stickies, the only other advice I'd give you:
Tinker. DE is very complex. You need to play around with your schematics a little and find out what works best. You'll need to know Droids in and out, as your customers will tend not to be very educated in Droidery.

unfortunatly, i can't have all the lots harvesting. my main is all used up on lots when you figure my yacht, my house, and the common houses we've placed in the town i am mayor of. (our post office, our resource warehouse, ect)
the crafter has a Small Tatooine house (2 lots) for my shop and home. i have one wearables factory (i am also a tailor) and 1 general factory. each factory takes up a lot as well. so i still have a total of 6 lots for harvesters though.
but believe me all 6 of those lots are mining like crazy. the resource vendors on Lowca are really price-gouging to capitalize on the grinding shipwrights.

2 things you're going to need in very high abundance if you want to move through the skill trees at good speed:
Steel
Fiberplast
When I was grinding, my development was completely tied to the amount of those 2 resources I could pull out of the ground (orafford to buy) in orderto make Advanced Frame Units. If you have to pick one to start stockpiling first, make itthe steel.
