It's not absolutely required, no. But it sure makes it a lot more convenient if you are. Those parts you heard about are required components for pretty much everything you make in the DE field, and have nothing to do with making a droid better or not. They're just required. However, if you have an Artisan friend you could get him/her to make schematics for you, so that you could make the factory runs yourself. That's what I do right now as I work toward accumulating the app points I need for Master Artisan (I'm sitting at 4-4-4-4 atm). You could also attempt to purchase crates of the components from an Artisan, but I've had very little luck finding a willing Artisan to sell them to me as of yet.

Yes and no. If you can find a good reliable supplier of the MA made items, then you won't need it. Honestly though, I find myslef using so many of the MA made stuff that it would impractical not to have it. I can use 1000 or more mems and GP's in a week. If you can't find someone to make you that many, you are going to have to do it yourself.

I would suggest that you master artisan for GP, Memory Modules, Micro Sensors, etc.

Some of the droids/items that need Master Artisan items (off the top of my head...not complete)

Probots (micro sensor suites)

Level 6 item/data/medical modules

Personality Chips

Advanced Droid Brains (need 4 factory produced GP and Memory modules) ***Most upper level droids used Advanced droid brains.

Every single item that can be built as a Master DE, with the exception of the Level 6 Armor Module - which instead requires an Armorsmith componet, requires a Master Artisan part. I refuse to even consider being a DE without Master Artisan.

like many have said so far no you dont have to be but yes it does help .finding parts can and more often than not hard to find when you need them most. here are a few ideas that may help if the other suggestions arent avalible .

1 master artisan use the time to understand what , how ,why etc. players master this profession, after all mastering a profession should not be just about how fast you've grinded there but rather what have you learned about the profession(maybe you learn a weakness for say a combat profession or why it cost so much money for certain items)

2 once youve learned it take advantage of factory schematics now more than ever being able to make 1000 units vs only 100 .stockpile the components you will need to help you create your droids

i myself have made enough spare ma parts to make droids for months good luck in you quest for de

may the force be with you

I'll answer as I asked this exact same question for my other character berfore setting out to become a MDE. My answer is YES! The sub-components are way to extensive and intricate to be asking another Master Artisan to make them for you. I have to run 200-300 EGP and EMM modules in factory crates per week. Some Micro Sensor Suites factory crates with Energy Distributors and such from factory crates. Etc.

It is technically possible for you to be a DE without MArtisan.. but I can tell you right now you will regret it and pay for it through heart-ache and extra time devoted to trying to manage your parts supplies.

Sorry I was a little upset at having to give up my skill points too, but in the end DE has been worth it.

I should also mention that I was going to use a friend-guild-mate to supply my master artisan compenents at first... guess what? He quit playing as much and ended up dropping master artisan.. and like the others have stated its very hard to find an artisan willing to sell you those items without charging you so much you cant make a profit on the droids.

Find a down-on-their-luck MA and offer them the use of all your factories. *grin* Easy supply chain management. Make 250 adv droid brains at a time, and then 250 more. I've only run into a full output hopper once, as a result of 1000-item runs of batteries, MA components, and adv blaster power handlers... Sharing requires scheduling, but that's not too tough.

However, for most people -- yeah, you want MA.

Well, at the risk of being different, I'd have to say my life as a DE without master artisan is much easier. I don't have to worry about the MM's or GP's, I just say that I need more and I've got them (I've got a couple master artisans I can depend on). This frees up my factories, cuts down on the resources I need to buy (I don't harvest my own stuff, again, not enough of a benefit for my time, plus no lots). All in all this makes for a pretty hassle free life, I recommend everyone else try it sometime.

Those are the key words right there. That's not an common thing to find in game.
