Thread: DEs: a request from a Doctor about your surgical droid (batteries and calling nerfs)

Esteemed Droid Engineers,

Firstly, my condolences to your profession... I hope you are fixed completely asa profession by the end of January... as you deserve to be. You have suffered a grave injustice.

BATTERIES

DEs... these battery durations are driving me nuts! Never in the movies did I see C3PO or R2-D2 shutting down every 15 minutes from lack of power.

Please have your batteries increased to 30-60min usage... even if you have to increase the cost and resource requirements for them.

DROID CALLING NERF

Since the Great Creature Handler Nerf... I can no longer call my CL7 kaadu mount and my surgical droid (it has 40 HAM.... so powerful). It's so NOT Star Wars to have to keep cycling between my weak mount and my equally weak droid (ok, so it deserves to be weak).

Please have your surgical droids (with their very crappy HAM) be able to be called independantly of a creature.

Your attention is appreciated.

Believe me: It's not OUR fault that these things work that way.

I agree. Battery duration should definatly last longer than it does.

Keep in mind that us DEs have no say in our profession Devs never listen to us.

and .... waiting for a fix. A battery meter would be really nice too. Maybe even stacking batteries in a droid for longer effect.

You might want to ask your local DE to craft you a Probot with Med 6 and Food/Chem crafting and max armor. That way it will at least help fight for you too and for now will have the same effect as the surgical droid.

You can still use a vehicle and call your droid too. At least this still works. It was really nice when I could call my probot and my Bantha at the same time. Saved my sorry butt more than once on harvesting runs.

When the great battery 'nerf' hit I kept asking if this was intentional or a bug and never saw a response. I'm sure part of the reason batteries don't last as long is because droids don't recharge in the datapad anymore and the battery 'timer' doesn't pause when the droid is stored. From what I remember droid batteries lasted between 30-45 minutes before the change and only last 10-15 now. I'll also admit that this change has made me stop using my probots for anything other than the most dire of emergency buffing/wound heals.

  • I already have to call a camp to pull out my mount/vehicle so I'll just buff/heal wounds then.

  • My droid is too untrustworthy in battle now since nothing is more annoying than having it stop in battle to need a battery or not fight at all since its *Low Power*

  • As a Doctor I already carry around crates of Muon, Bivoli Tempari (food), 6 wound packs, Revive packs, Stim Packs, Buff Packs, etc. I don't really feel the desire to carry around 1 *more* thing for something that may or may not work when I want it to

I know it isn't your fault, DEs I'm just being honest. The tragic part is that the people I hunt with (RL friends) all agree and do the same thing.

I can only imagine that some Dev made this change to throw the DEs a bone (Hey, let make a change so they can sell more batteries, they should like the added business) however I'm afraid its backfired, at least for me and my friends it personally has.

For anyone still a DE I give a hearty /salute!

Uh, so WE don't want it, and YOU don't want it in for PvP--then why is it still there??

If you mostly group with friends have one of them buy a power droid, he can then power the whole group (if everybody has a Probot and they should).

There are different ways around things, some other them are even ligitamate

Caliwyrm,

A couple of points:

First, a probot won't stop mid-combat. Once engaged, it will continue to fight, regardless of battery state. It will stop following your orders but it won't just 'stop' in the middle of combat. At least, I've heard no reports of them doing so. Granted, once one opponent goes down, it can be MIGHTY inconvenient to see *Low Power* when you try to get the droid to take on the guy shooting at you.

Second, I don't know how much business they were intending to give droid engineers with the battery nerf... Droid batteries can be made by virtually any artisan. I personally find they take up valuable factory time and resources, and don't produce them very often anymore.

When I used mine it certainly stopped in combat enough times to be a pain. I consider "in combat" to be having 3-4 mobs on me and/or my droid and fighting until they're all dead, however my droid has stopped after killing 1 of 2 or 3 mobs on it. /Shrug, I'm not here to debate meanings of "in combat" or anything but hopefully help explain why me, and other people I know, don't use droids that much, no matter how much we'd *really* like to. Hopefully these reasons/explanations/testimonials can help the devs come around (if/when they ever do with the DE profession )

Just last night, I sold a probot to a Creature Handler and we confirmed that she can have her pet AND droid out at the same time. To my knowledge no one else can have a droid and another pet active.

We also determined that she could *not* call two droids. At least that is consistent for everyone!

I think SOE should, during their pet/combat switch-over, classify the different kinds of pets and give the "multi-pet" capabilities to appropriate classes:

* Creatures to CH (duh)

* Droids to DE

* People/Faction pets to Squad Leaders. (Or perhaps to those with high faction rank.)

Under this division, a CH could have two pets out but only one droid or faction pet.

A Squad Leader could command several storm troopers, but only one droid or creature.

A DE could command several droids, but only one creature or faction pet.

Also, if they let CH have pets and a droid, then I think every group should be able to have primary pet type and one secondary pet out at the same time. For example, let the Squad Leader have multiple storm-troopers AND a riding animal.

So, let me get this straight: To advance my character, I have to give up my current abilities?
