I agree with both of these posts

Droid engineers definatly need some help.

I am aMaster Artisian and Novice Droid Engineer, I'm halfway to my first intermediate box, I have never ran one harvestor, I have 61k in the bank (mostly from armor sales) and I sale the medic mouse bots for 1500 each. It is definatly one hell of a grind..

When I first heard of the Droid Engineer class in SWG I feel imidiatly in love. It was absolutly a wonderous idea. Then I made novice Droid Engineer. The honeymoon lasted about 30 minutes. It is almost impossible to advance from novice DE. Here are the number. (powergamers get out you pen and pencil).

I've made every item a novice DE can make and have determined the best combination of items to make in order to power level to the next skill box.

Medical Module 45exp

5 Metal

15 Non-Ferrous Metal

2 inert gas

____________

22 units of resouces and 45 exp. (2.04 exp per unit)

MSE Droid w/ Medical Module 162 exp (if built without the med. mod. its only 140exp)

52Metal 15 Chemical

_________________

67 units of resouces for 162 exp

TOTAL PACKAGE (45 exp for building med. mod. plus 162 for building the droid with the med. mod.=207)

57 Metal

15 Non Ferrous Metal

15 Chemical

2 Inert gas

----------------------------------

89 total resources for 207 exp (2.32 exp. per unit of resources)

Compare that 2.32 exp per unit to the barrels we all ground out to make novice

10 resources for 40 exp (4 exp per unit of resource)

Now after look at all that your wonder whats the point. at 207 exp per droid and 48,000 exp to the next level that works out to be 232 MSE droids to get to the next skill level. This is the GOOD NEWS, just wait till I get to the bad. Some of you may be thinking 232 droids aren't bad. After all it took 722 barrels to get to novice DE. The BAD news is the number of resources it wil take to make the 232 droids

232 MSE DROIDS with Medical Modules

13,224 Metal

3,480 Non Ferrous Metal

3,480 Chemical

464 Inert Gas

________________________________

20,648 total resources

It will take over 20,000 units of resources to get 1 little level of DE. With a lot of playing and some good mines it might to possible to get that less than a week. However where would a novice DE the money to maintain the mines? No one will buy MSE droids. Our novice DE will need to keep making CDEF weapons and bone armor to get the money to keep the mines running. He would also need to keep those mines supplied with power and supliment the mines with surveying.

All told a dedicated player could grind his way to the next skill level with days and days of mind numbing work. After all this time mindless grinding out hundreds of useless droid no one wants to buy our intrepid power gamer will gain that ONE box of skill.

I will now brace myself for masive flaming. I can see the people decrying me as a mindless power gamer who only cares about getting the most powerfull character in the game and telling me that grinding items for exp is wrong and that I should just play for fun and that people like me ruin the game and that...... (the run on sentence is intentional). This attitude however illustrates my point. There is no way to play a DE and just have fun making things and taking part in the economy. There is simply no demand for mouse droids. They serve no purpose and no one wants to buy them. Our happy go lucking droid engineer who doesn't power level will NEVER make a second skill box. Simply put thesupply will always far exceed the tiny demand for MSE droids. How long will it take for 232 MSE droids to sell naturaly? They never will. First becaus they suck. Second because by the time this poor sap could sell that many droids, other people who power level would be sell ing the advanced model anyway. Where is the fun in that? For that matter, where is the fun in playing a DE at all.

Even if someone does put in the near countless hours to get that one box they payout isn't good enough to make it worth all the trouble. In my humble opinion the DE proffession is broken and is simply not playable. This is a pure tragedy. It had such wonderfull potential, yet it fails so terribly.

I do have a few constructive suggestions. First and foremost, let novice droid engineers build a droid the average marksmen would want to buy. It doesn't need to be big or bad. It just needs to be usefull. There is a perfect example of this. I can't remember its' name but some Star wars fan could supply it. The little, round, flying ball Luke used to train with is lightsabe with in episode four. This little driod has been in every one of the Dark Forces computer games and sould not to hard to put in SWG. Its small and weak but could be fun and it might actualy sell. My second suggestion would be to increase the exp for droid building for decrease the exp to improve.

In conclusion, it is entirely to hard to advance in the DE proffesion. To get even the smallest increase in skill it will be necissary to spend countless hours producing worthless items no one had has the slightest interest in buying. Then after all this dull, mind numbing work and player get to make more useless droids no one wants to buy..............wait just a second I thought this was supposed to be fun. Maybe I'll make a new character and shoot wamp rats.

Before I start in with my advice let me introduce myself. I am Kord from the bloodfin server. I am on advanced blueprints and almost to expert. Getting past the first box I agree is far too challanging, and the second box is almost as useless but it is possible. With no external help I managed to maintain 3 generators and 5 harvesters all on my own. All I did was sell about 500 of the units of steel i made per day for about 2500 credits. I also sold MSE droids for 100 credits advertising them as novelty items not droids. People payed 200 credits for my fireworks in the bazaar i figured for that kind of player 100 credits to have a little named mouse droid follow them around wouldnt seem like all that much; I was right. I was able to sell almost all of the mosue droids I made (for a small price but a price none the less). To get over the next hurdle (intermediate blueprints to advanced) I sold tracker droids for 1-3k a piece. It's all in how ou advertise them. I didn't sell them as the substiture for combat because they aren't. I sold them as a way for noncombat crafters like myself to get a few extra crucial seconds in running away from a fight. Crafters ate it up and I'm sitting with over 50k in my bank right now.

I'm going to end my advice here as I still want to make Master DE before anyone else on my server, but each time I cross a new hurdle I will post new suggestions on how to overcome the giganticly-huge barriers the Devs put on us. I'm not saying the current barriers are o.k.(hell I started the 3 page long petition to get them changed), I'm only saying it is possible to get over them with some dedication.

Heh i read this whole thread just to get to the end and find out it was started near game launch. I really need to start looking at the dates on the threads more often.

I see dead threads.

In your dreams? While you're online? Dead threads, like, in archives?

Posted, like regular threads. People reply to them. They don't know that they're dead.

How often do you see them?

All the time. They're everywhere.
