Thread: Let my droid speak...
Other games (ie Anarchy Online) have the commands in place to make droids say whatever you want, so why doesn't SWG? I know this is not AO, but the addition of such a thing could only make SWG that much more appealing to role-players. I know I'd be more likely to have my protocol droid following me around making snide/arrogant comments than I am right now. A small command could help out a bit, or so I think.

Once and Future DE
AO had "droids"????
I smell something ... something really bad... Oh... My.... GOD.... I smell LAWSUIT!
sssssssssssssSSS(:-<
I bought a convo droid specifically for that reason and was dissappointed when I found out that they only speak when spoken to and only in two different responses.
I think it would be cool if there was a randomizer and a trigger so that if you had your droid out for X number of minutes he would randomly say one of 5-10 things that you would program him to say. Or when you used him for crafting/fighting/healing/ etc. he would randomly say one of the 5-10 things for that.
This would add SOOOOOOO much to the game and it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to add.
When I use my probots and they help me destroy something (rare I know) I will type in a "good job buddy", /pet, or something like that or if I call him and he refuses to come cause of *low power* or something like that, I will shout at him again and then walk over saying "Stupid droids always causing me trouble!"
Now I do this cause I like to rp- (and I'm a dweeb) but also because if someone else is around and reading their chat window they might get a kick out of it-(or scared).
Idunno I just think it adds to the game but it would be twice as good if the droids could say something back.
Hell, give us a bank with 20 random phrases- It's not like we are trying to avoid spam or anything. It would just make owning a droid so much more interesting than a pet- at least they can do tricks.
Sidenote: The other day I looted some glop bombs off of a Stormtrooper and when I started using them my character said, "They really need to issue better equipment!"
Now, I didn't type that- When I used about the third bomb it triggered something that made my main say that- so I'm pretty sure making your 3PO droid talk should be relatively easy.

Point clarity...
AO has "bots" and "pets" technically. So the abovementioned lawsuit will never occur. And I think Asimov has a right to sue LucasArts for use of "droid" as it is a derivitive work from "Android" which I believe Asimov did coin. That is IF you can sue over the use of a word OUTSIDE of trade and sales marks.
Done hijacking the thread...

I'm kinda surprised that this hasn't been discussed more (I'm not sure if it has).
It would seem that now would be the time to bring it up since DE is being revamped- Although, the community has cried out about so many things (justifully so) that I'm not sure how serious they would take this-
Why don't we start a thread poll?
How do we start a Thread Poll? Just Title a thread something like "Droid Poll: Should PC's be able to make Droids talk?"? I'm never started a thread poll, so I'm clueless...
Good reactions so far...

A /droidspeak command would be nice... But I would like to see the droid chatter we used to have... only a bit less frequent...
Does anyone else remember how much droids much used to talk??? Especially compared to now???
My hopes for droid speach are that they spout something offreactively to the enviornment...
i.e. They don't say much while standing still at starports, but talk like mad in combat... Something along that lines...
