Greetings to all DE's of the shards.

I am new to droids in general, never having owned one other than the starter one. But I would like to buy one or more, and I have a few questions.

1 ) I see harvesting droids for sale. One in particular said it boosted harvesting by + 107 . Honestly though, how much does that REALLY mean ? I'm a novice scout at this point, but will be rising up fairly quickly. So, at the begginning, will it double my meat intake ? or more ? And decrease as I go up the tree ? Can anyone provide me with some raw numbers telling me how much harvesting will be improved. Unfortuantely, I don't know enough about the system to know what the +107 means in real terms.

2 ) As a medic for support, I have a few questions about a med droid. My understanding is they help with healing, allow you to heal wounds in the field, and provide a portable crafting station. Is this it ? If so, why do they sell them with 12k HAM total... That seems like an incredible amount for a non combat droid. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

3) Combat droids - what would the equivalents be ? For example, I saw one with a 575 combat rating and about 12k HAM. ...... as usual to me, numbers mean nothing. What I want to know is, what would the equivalent PC be ? Is a droid like this the equivalent of a Novice fighter, Master figher, novice elite skill fighter, or master elite skill figher. Or somewhere in between all those. I would really appreciate some advice here. The thought of fighting side by side with a droid interests me a great bit. Mostly because all the chassis I see are R2 type models. The thought of an R2-D2 type droid blasting the crap out of things makes me happy.

4) Also, as droids get damaged, can I fix them ? With zero DE skill ? Any tips on this would be great. And I understand I have to keep it powered up as well. I think I understand this part.

Wow, I just saw all that and realize I know nothing about droids. If you Master Droid Makers could help me out, one of your kind will be benefitting greatly because I will spend 400k to buy the 3 above types from him ( Maximouse of Starsider )

Thanks in advance !

  1. The bonus for harvesting is relative to your skill points. A 107 Bonus Droid should give +20-25% extra harvests per use. The % may decrease you get to be a top level ranger (i.e. +10-15% or so, but I would need someone to confirm this).

  2. Droid HAM is based solely on the chassis, regardless of what modules you stick in it, R2's can have 4.5k,MSE can have about 50. Don't worry about HAM unless its a combat droid.

  3. A LE Repair droid has 6k HAM (each bar that is, I think you are adding all 3 together to get you number of 12k). This is very tough, tougher thanplayer without armor. They follow the same rules as players, but will not dodge skills or the like. R2's are pretty good. The max possible Combat rating/damage is on a Probot w/ 550 Combat Rating which should do 160-180 damage or so. R3s can have a 600 CR but do lower damage (but have more HAM than Probots).

  4. Repairing white bar damage to a droid can be done with repair kits, which like pet stims require no skills to use.

You've got the right idea for how the system works, numbers are just off. At novice scout the droid will harvest about 30% more than you, at master scout its about 20% more, and at master ranger its about 10% more (at least, those are the results I've gotten from asking my customers)

2 ) As a medic for support, I have a few questions about a med droid. My understanding is they help with healing, allow you to heal wounds in the field, and provide a portable crafting station. A good med droid will let you heal wounds at 110% your normal effectiveness, as well as let you craft. I think you misread that 12k HAM... no droids have 12k HAM. The HAM is independent of the droids capabilities though, and is based solely on the type of droid it is, so a medical LE repair droid will have 6k HAM if made with good resources.

3) Combat droids - what would the equivalents be ? For example, I saw one with a 575 combat rating and about 12k HAM. ...... as usual to me, numbers mean nothing. Again, I think you misread the 12k HAM (or it was mislabeled). The R3 has 4500, the probot has 3200, and the LE has 6k. The probot will do about as much damage as a mid-level novice marksman (pistols 2-3), the R3 will do about the damage of a low end marksman (pistols 1-2) but can take more of a beating, and the LE does about the damage of a novice brawler (if that much) but can take a very good beating.

4) Also, as droids get damaged, can I fix them ? With zero DE skill ? Any tips on this would be great. And I understand I have to keep it powered up as well. I think I understand this part.

You can fix a droids damage with droid repair kits (anyone can use them) and damage also heals over time. Wounds can be repaired by a DE with a reconstruction kit or any other PC with a repair droid (though you can't repair your own droids since you must have both droids out and you can only have 1 out at a time). You can repair the droids vitality with a BE pet vitality pack.

For the hunting droid, I think it might be a bigger bonus at the lower levels...

Just last night i was trying out a harvesting droid.I have the hunting I skill, but that's it. On the rontos i was killing, by myself i would harvest 10-12 units... with my droids i would harvest 20+ (everyonce in a while it was 19) so that is a 100% increase at that level. I'll do some more, with different creatures, but it seems at my low level the bonus is fairly substantial.

Another thing to bear in mind is that droids seem to work better when specialized. If you want to use one to harvest, go with all harvest, if you want to use one for damage in combat, go all combat if you want a crafter droid, just get the private stations you want and maybe storage and data modules. Don't try to put too much into a droid or it won't be very good at any 1 thing. The previous DEs didn't mention (because the original poster didnt bring it up) that the most popular 'combat' droids at the moment are autorepair tank droids.

Droids don't do much damage, but make excellent damage sinks if you are out xping as a marksman or brawler and want to bite off more than you could normally chew on your own. Droids are perfect because they a) don't do much damage and steal your xp; and b) when configured right can stand up to low-mid level mobs fora good long time. Auto-repair makes them last even longer, at the cost of more batteries of course.

So, you get a probot with 5 auto-repairs (probots don't need a combat module to fight) or an R3 with 1 combat and 5 auto-repair (this is the best autorepair tank)or and LE with 1 combat and 2 autorepairs, get them into a fight with autorepair turned on and hammer away at your targets to collect most of the xp for the kill. The droid basically acts as your HAM buffer. Bring some cheap repair kits to fix them up between fights so you dont have to wait for them to heal themselves up and you can increase your saftey and experience.
